A year ago, three minutes changed everything.
Three minutes of violence.
Three minutes of fear.
Three minutes that followed us long after the armed robbery was over.
Today is a day we have both quietly dreaded.
The anniversary.
The reminder.
The memories that don’t always ask permission they just quietly remind you when you least expect it.
There were so many moments of uncertainty after that morning.
Waiting days for surgery.
Learning how to feel safe in our own home again. Learning how to sleep with the lights off.
Learning how to settle our nervous systems in a space that was supposed to feel like peace.
And there were moments we don’t often speak about publicly.
The emotional rollercoaster.
The exhaustion.
The fear.
The pressure it placed on both of us.
The times we questioned whether our relationship was strong enough to survive what those three minutes brought into our lives.
But here we are.
Still standing.
Still together.
Still choosing each other.
Still rebuilding safety, trust, calm and home.
Still growing.
What happened will always be part of our story, but it is not the whole story.
It is a pivot point marked in time that we never saw coming.
12 months on & there is so much good that has come about too.
This year also showed us our strength.
It showed us what healing can look like.
It showed us that feeling safe again is not instant, but it is possible.
It’s driven the why behind Roam Wise!
Today, we honour the fear we carried, the memories that still rise, and the people we have become on the other side of it.
We have come so far.
And that matters.
