Friday 30 Jan was a re-sail of Tuesday, when the forecast 42C was reached when we were scheduled to be sailing.
The light ESE to start with backed to a moderate SW for the last half. Certainly challenging conditions at times.
The course was re-set 3 times.
After the first scratch race, handicaps were used, with the fleet starting over up to 100 seconds.
Thank you Geoffrey & Tim for the race management and setting the handicaps.
Colin really hit his straps when the breeze filled in and couldn’t be headed - if the breeze had been in all day, he may have won comfortably.
The ever consistent David came a close third, with special mention to “I’m not a sailor” Ron, particularly with seconds in the last 2 races… well sailed Ron!
Paul W slept in, started with a bullet, but tired towards the end of- maybe he shouldn’t get up too early!😉
Thanks also Geoffrey for the pics.
Next sailing:- Tuesday 10am is looking good.
Participants were encouraged to sail in the SA State Champs - for the DF65s, it’s an all rig event, on Saturday 14th March at Wallaroo.

Sailing resumed at Coorong Quays - a record fleet (for us) of 13 boats.Back next Tuesday at 10 am, weather permitting.

In other news, congratulations to one of our participants, Serge, on taking out the Grand Master title at the Australian DF65 championship sailed at Port Adelaide in early October. Here he is, pictured with Lester, our other Fleurieu Coorong Quays nationals participant.

Tuesday 23.9.25. Our first sail of significance, with a couple of our recently returned seasonal travellers making an appearance.
We had one scratch race, followed by pursuit races. Initially two laps, the last 4 were of 3 laps, to provide more opportunity for recovery, with longer handicap allowances.
Wind WSW 6-12 knots.
Two of our travelers showed they hadn’t become stale with their combined 25,000 journey, with some consistent races evident. Well done, Ron & Lawrie.
Serge improved as the day progressed.
John started to find his Mojo.
AJ sailed well, but the battery gods weren’t playing ball, with 2 separate issues late in the day.
Geoffrey had the boat going well, on occasion - just needs to achieve some more consistency . The usual banter and light hearted conversation ensued anongst all sailors.
All the best to Serge who is doing the DF65 nationals later next week in Adelaide and to Lester who is participating in both the DF65 & DF95 nationals over the coming calendar week.
Next sailing, weather permitting is on Tuesday 30 September, at 10am.

Our 51st sailing day was a bit of a fizzer. Only Serge & Lester could attend on the out of schedule day, for the promised 12-15 knot NNW breeze.
They were greeted with a bit more than that at the start, which after half a dozen races built to the mid 20’s, with gusts near 30.
They had half a dozen scratch races, with Serge grabbing a couple of wins.
The 7th ‘race’ saw Lester produce a newly built C rig, which wasn’t far off the pace upwind, but scooted, under control, downhill.
Hopefully, we can get a sail in on Tuesday.

After an eight week late winter recess, our second sailing season resumed today. A pleasant SW 5-10 knots rewarded the three sailors who could attend.
We had a scratch race to start with, followed by 9 handicap races.
Courses were longer than usual, half a beat, followed by 2 full sausages. This gave opportunities for sailors to recover, or in some cases, sn**ch defeat, from the jaws of victory.
All 3 had at least 3 wins, so it was a good mix, with the handicapping often providing close finishes.
We broke up the racing towards the end with about 10 practice race starts.
Our sailing is meant to be on Tuesdays, between 11 & 2 - with a fallback to Friday if the Tuesday is cancelled.
Speaking of which, sailing this coming Tuesday is looking unlikely.

NW / SW to 12 knots, with distant rain greeted the sailors.
We had a scratch, followed by 8 handicap races.
Three races were conducted before the rain was no longer distant!
After a half hour break, we snuck in another 6 races before the rain returned.
Pleasingly, everyone had at least one win… including Mal, who progressively improved through the day to comfortably take the choccies in the final race.
Only 3 points separated positions 2-4… with Ian, Owen, Serge & Dave having similar handicaps… the racing was very close.
Next Tuesday is looking marginal… so it remains to be seen when we race in the back half of July.
Further, with absences, we have determined to not race in August.
Otherwise sailing resumes on 2 September.
