📢CSA crew–Community Service Announcement⚓️

Couldn’t find any useful info from the powers that be, so here’s the heads-up for anyone planning to get the tinny wet this weekend

🌬️ First up, we’ve got some decent blows on the way. Strong winds are forecast to belt through consistently from Sunday morning right through to Wednesday, so check the forecast, secure your gear and don’t get caught with your pants down offshore

🏃‍♂️ Also, there’s a running race on this weekend, which means access to some of our public boat ramps along the event course will be blocked. Yep… because apparently ratepaying residents launching a boat on their days off takes a back seat 🤯

Plan your run accordingly, shipmates. Check your tides, check the weather, and if you’re heading out, keep the shiny side up

🌊⚓WORLD OCEANS DAY ⚓🌊
Ahoy, mateys! The ocean connects us all, from the smallest creek and estuary to the open sea beyond the horizon. Every creek, river, wetland, waterway and catchment eventually finds its way to the ocean. The health of our seas is shaped by the health of the waterways that feed them, reminding us that what happens upstream matters downstream.

This World Oceans Day, the theme "Reimagine" invites us to chart a better course for the future. By protecting and restoring our waterways, islands, wetlands, estuaries and coastal environments, we can strengthen ecosystem health, build climate resilience and safeguard the natural treasures that make the Gold Coast a boatie's paradise.

Sadly, many of Australia's iconic marine species are now sailing into troubled waters, with increasing numbers listed as threatened with extinction. That's why it's all hands on deck to do our bit for the waterways and oceans we love.

⚓️ Advocate for better water quality and maintenance of our waterways
⚓ Stow your rubbish and dispose of waste responsibly
⚓ Use pump-out facilities and keep sewage out of our waterways
⚓ Respect marine wildlife and sensitive habitats
⚓ Leave nothing behind but a wake
⚓ Be a good skipper and set an example for your crew

Whether you're casting a line in the Tweed, cruising the Broadwater, dropping anchor at the Pin or heading offshore, every voyage is an opportunity to be a steward of the sea.

🚽 Pump out responsibly
🌊 Protect our waterways

After all, we're all shipmates on the same blue planet, and there be no spare ocean.

Marine Stadium recreational area extended

The current management arrangements for the Marine Stadium recreational opportunities area at the Top of the Spit will continue until 31 March 2027.

Since 2023, the area has been managed to support swimming, paddling and other non-powered water activities while limiting vessel anchoring in the northern section of Marine Stadium.

Monitoring has shown:
• Improved water quality
• Strong community use of the area
• Vessel compliance is generally high, with targeted issues identified

Extending the arrangements will allow further monitoring and help inform future management options for Marine Stadium.

With the findings of the State Govenment’s bias survey on the future of Wave Break Island about to be released, we encourage everyone to follow Friends of Wave Break Island, Save Our Broadwater, and Save Our Spit on Facebook and support the community effort to protect and conserve this special place.

The Gold Coast Waterways Authority is taking a slither of the legislated Spit Master Plan and exploiting it into a development proposal that the wider community — including some past and present board members and staff — never did, nor will they support.

Community voices continue to say NO to development of Wave Break Island and implore the government to enforce protection and conservation of the island.

Just like Mayor Tait, GCWA will stop at nothing to pave paradise for commercial development. In fact, GCWA have even appointed a PR specialist as Chairperson of their Board, seemingly in an attempt to repair their credibility and sway their damaged reputation rather than address the community’s valid concerns.

Many locals see this as a basic publicity stunt in image management rather than genuine waterways stewardship.
