One thing I’ve realized since coming home is how many places around Saskatoon I’ve spent years overlooking. Furdale is one of them.

I’ve heard plenty of people talk about it, but today was only my second time actually ever visiting.

For off leash dog parks in Saskatoon, this has to be one of the best. It’s even great to wander the paths if you don’t have a dog!

What Saskatoon neighbourhood, trail, park, or hidden corner should I explore next?

I’m on a mission to prove Saskatoon has plenty of things to do as a “tourist”. And today’s evidence: Grocery Bingo.

We went to the legion where there was a few hundred people having a great time playing bingo and winning every grocery item under the sun. It’s very funny, and incredibly competitive, and also one of the weirder things I’ve done in the city.

But it’s exactly the kind of thing I never would have discovered if I wasn’t finding the most interesting things to do in the city.

What should I check out next in Saskatoon?

One thing I’ve really noticed since coming home is how much green space Saskatoon has. The city has more than 200 parks and thousands of acres of parkland. But the best part about it all is how accessible our parks are.

When you live somewhere, it’s easy to stop seeing the things that make it special. Even something as small and simple as a neighbourhood park.

What’s your favourite park in Saskatoon?

For the last five months, I’ve been exploring places all over the world.

And now, for the time being, I’m home!

And honestly, I don’t think the biggest lesson from the trip was about travel. I think it was actually about curiosity. Because I’ve found that the people who seem to get the most out of a place aren’t always the people who travelled the farthest.

They’re the people who pay attention.

So this summer, I’m going to try something a little fun! Mixed in with my international travel content, I’m also going to explore Saskatoon like I’ve never been here before.

I want to find all the hidden gems, neighbourhoods, local history, walks, restaurants, weird attractions, overlooked places, and anything else worth discovering!

Where should I start?

Almost six months ago I left Saskatoon with a backpack and a one-way ticket.

Yesterday I was on a tiny island in Fiji.

Today I’m unpacking, doing laundry, and figuring out what food is in the fridge.

It’s always very strange how quickly extraordinary things become normal, and how quickly normal things start feeling extraordinary.

I think we spend so much time talking about leaving that nobody really talks about what it feels like to come home.

For anyone who’s done a long trip, what’s the weirdest part of coming back for you?

09/06/2026

Convince me where I should go next! I need inspiration. If you’re inspiring enough, I’ll do it! Because why not a little spontaneity?

I’m curious how other people approach this. Say you’ve checked out of your accommodations. Your flight is later today. The trip is basically over atp.

Do you spend the last few hours soaking up the sun? Going for one last swim? Getting a great meal? Buying souvenirs? Or do you go wandering around trying to squeeze every last drop out of the trip?

What’s your end-of-trip ritual? Let me know in the comments!

One of the things I’ve been trying to do in Fiji is spend time in places that help me understand the country beyond the postcard version. Nakabuta Pottery Village was one of those places.

Pottery has been made here for generations, and it was fascinating to see the process, hear the stories, and spend some time somewhere that felt connected to a much longer history than tourism.

Yes, the beaches here are beautiful. But the culture and generational practices here are even more beautiful.

I know not everyone has the privelage of time and money to travel. But I do think a lot more people are capable of it than they realize.

The hardest part of this entire trip for me wasn’t the flights, the logistics, being away from home. Nothing like that.

It was just deciding to go. Everything else came after.

So, what’s stopping you from seeing the world?
