Dear Boat Owners,
The threat of Cyclone Alfred is now imminent, with the potential to cause significant damage. We urge all boat owners to take immediate action and ensure their vessels are properly prepared for what is potentially coming. Here are some key considerations:
• Boat Positioning: Be mindful of your boat’s position in its berth. During severe weather, ropes can stretch significantly under load, which may allow the boat to move around, potentially overhanging the main walkway or riding up onto the marina pontoons, causing considerable damage.
• Securing the Boat: Use as many ropes as possible to distribute the extraordinary loads during severe weather events. Ensure that primary and secondary lines are attached to different tie-off points. This way, if one rope or cleat fails, the secondary line can still secure the boat.
• Bilges: Ensure all bilges are clear and operational.
• Power Sources: Turn off all non-essential power sources to prevent battery drain in case of power loss.
• Fenders: Deploy extra fenders down both sides of the vessel.
• Decks and Cockpits: Clear all items from the decks and cockpits.
• Awnings: Secure or remove any awnings.
• Tenders: Are secured or removed from vessel.
If you need assistance or are unable to access your vessel in time, please reach out, and I will do my best to assist you.
Stay safe and help keep our waterways clear.
