🚨 Your float-free EPIRB could be your lifeline in an emergency.

Did you know its reliability hinges on 2 key factors — the battery and the Hydrostatic Release Unit (HRU)?

While checking the battery in our EPIRBs is a common practice, don’t forget that the HRU needs replacing 2 years after installation unless the manufacturer says otherwise šŸ› ļø

If you’ve been using the same float-free EPIRB for a couple of years, it’s time for a check-up! Ensure your device is ready to spring into action when you need it mostāš“

Find out more about HRU replacement on our website: https://brnw.ch/21wMLNc

Always remember to check the manufacturer’s instructions!

Marine Safety thought of the day.
Are your flares almost out of date?
If you have a GPS EPIRB or PLB, consider replacing flares with an Electronic Visual Distress Signalling device (EVDS).
Don’t need to renew every 3 years.
You can replace batteries yourself.

Do you want to learn new skills whilst helping people in times of need?

We have opportunities available to join our group, either on our rescue boats or as a radio operator in our Radio Operations Centre. Both roles are vital to our mission in keeping the WA Boating Community Safe.

Serving as a marine rescue volunteer, not only gives you a great day out on the water but you gain a great deal of self-satisfaction when assisting someone in distress. As a volunteer, you would need to be reasonably fit, committed, available and importantly, enthusiastic.

You don’t need a lot of experience because we will provide you with comprehensive training.

Our next new members information night is Tuesday 6th September however expressions of interest must be submitted beforehand. To find out more head to our website https://www.marinerescuewhitfords.org/ scroll down to Volunteers and register your EOI.

This is a perfect way to help the community whilst gaining a lot of personal satisfaction knowing that you have helped or even saved a life.

It’s the simple things that often get overlooked

An important, and often over looked, aspect of boating is to make your trip details known to someone responsible prior to heading out. This can be done in writing with someone known to you, or via Logging On with your local Marine Rescue group.
Don’t forget to let them know when you return and are safely off the water also.
