STS Leeuwin II recommenced their Youth Ocean Adventures on Saturday 26th September.
Fremantle Pilots are proudly part sponsoring CBC student Juliette Hawthorn to participate with this voyage and have also released Captain Greg Tonnison to support with the operational restart. Greg has previously been involved with the Leeuwin Foundation as vessel Master and Operations Manager.
Leeuwin Foundation CEO, Jo Lynch said a huge effort from many people has gone into getting the Leeuwin II ready to ride the waves again and they were very much looking forward to the seeing the vessel re-commence youth voyages.
Fremantle Port Authority have been a long-term major sponsor of the Leeuwin Foundation and Acting Harbour Master David Heppingstone has been heavily involved with Leeuwin preparations.

🎉 Celebrating the retirement of Captain Raymond Alfreds 🥂

After 21 years of outstanding service with Fremantle Pilots, we farewell Captain Raymond Alfreds as he begins his well-earned retirement.

Raymond’s remarkable maritime career began in Singapore, where he gained invaluable experience as a pilot in one of the busiest ports in the world. Bringing that wealth of knowledge and expertise to Australia, Raymond commenced his Australian piloting career at the Port of Geraldton before settling his family in Perth and joining the Fremantle Pilots team.

Over the past two decades, Raymond has played an integral role in the safe and efficient movement of vessels through the . Beyond his role as a pilot, Raymond has also served as a Director of Fremantle Pilots, providing strong leadership, guidance, and a wealth of experience that has helped shape our company.

Raymond’s professionalism, calm judgement, and dedication to the maritime industry have earned the respect of colleagues, port stakeholders, and countless shipmasters who have placed their trust in him over the years.

On behalf of everyone at Fremantle Pilots, we sincerely thank Captain Raymond for his 21 years of service, commitment, and friendship. His contribution to our company and the wider maritime community will be greatly valued and remembered.

We wish Raymond and his family all the very best for the next chapter — may retirement bring plenty of time for relaxation, adventure, and new experiences.

It was a privilege for Captain Aden Felstead, on behalf of the , to present the Master of the brand-new vessel Bastion with a plaque commemorating the vessel’s maiden voyage.

The Bastion berthed at Alcoa 2 on Saturday morning before departing Sunday afternoon, bound for Geraldton.

The Bastion is the second CABU III vessel delivered to the KCC fleet. These versatile vessels are capable of carrying both bulk liquid and bulk dry cargoes, providing an efficient solution for high-cost transport routes by reducing the number of days vessels operate between ports without cargo onboard.

The third CABU III vessel, MV Baltazar, is expected to be delivered in Q3 2026 and will be the first vessel in the fleet to incorporate wind sail technology, further enhancing the company’s commitment to improving operational efficiency and sustainability.

These new-generation vessels will progressively replace KCC’s ageing first-generation CABU vessels, marking an important step forward in the evolution of the fleet
