A great weekend in Shepparton for the Livestock & Rural Transporters Association of Victoria Rural Carriers Conference, and what a milestone to be part of, celebrating 40 years of the LRTAV.

ALRTA Executive Director Ben Maguire joined members, operators and industry leaders for a packed program of sessions, networking and conversation.

Pictured with Lauren from LRTAQ, Warren Howard from Howard & Co, and Kylie Flower following a Q&A session introducing Ben to the industry.

Also great to see ALRTA’s Deputy President presenting the TruckCare program to the room.

Congratulations to the LRTAV on 40 years of representing rural carriers in Victoria.

Getting out, connecting with members and understanding the full supply chain firsthand, that's what national representation looks like.

The new Heavy Vehicle Accreditation scheme begins tomorrow (August 1), progressively replacing NHVAS. Existing accreditation won't automatically end, but from tomorrow the NHVR can no longer grant new NHVAS accreditation or add modules to existing accreditations.

Mass and dimension rules also change. General Mass Limits increase to align with current Concessional Mass Limits, and the general vehicle length limit moves from 19 metres to 20 metres where all requirements are met.

These changes don't mean automatic approval to operate at higher mass or length. Check your vehicle and axle limits, route restrictions and any conditions under a notice, permit or PBS approval before you travel.

Check out the NHVR accreditation transition guidance here:

From 1 August 2026, the NHVAS will be progressively replaced by the HVA scheme.

Quick fuel check for operators ⛽

From 1 July to 2 August 2026, the Heavy Vehicle Road User Charge for liquid fuels is 16.4 cents per litre.

It's worth taking a moment to check:
🔹 Your fuel tax credit calculations
🔹 Customer fuel levies
🔹 Rise-and-fall clauses
🔹 Invoices

Rates are due to change again after 2 August, so it's a good time to make sure everything lines up before then.

Don't forget, changes to the Heavy Vehicle National Law start 1 August 2026.

Before then, it's worth checking how the changes affect your business, including:
🔹 Accreditation arrangements
🔹 Driver fitness and work diary procedures
🔹 PBS or permit requirements
🔹 Mass and dimension settings
🔹 Offences and penalties

If any of this is unclear, or you can see it creating problems on the ground, tell us. Email [email protected] and help shape the advocacy we do on your behalf.

There's something special about seeing our industry through the eyes of the people who live and breathe it every day. 🐂

We love celebrating the moments that make livestock and rural transport what it is, and we want to see yours.

Share your photos in the comments for your chance to be featured on our page. Phone snaps, drone shots, early mornings, long hauls ... they're all welcome.

We'll kick things off with this incredible shot of cattle loading at Stirling yards.
