GWH Closure- a Truckies analogy.

It’s Monday morning and you’ve had a fantastic weekend, you’re ready to jump into the week and looking forward to make positive progress at work.

By lunchtime, you’re way ahead of the game…. might even be able to knock off early!

Midafternoon- just a couple more things to achieve - then you’re on the home straight, home early to relax, play with the kids maybe even out for dinner.
This is living!

And then it happens………….

suddenly the screen freezes, there is a build up of excessive files and the computer cannot cope, it shuts down and tries to reboot. No matter what you do nothing improves, instead you are left there staring at the screen waiting and waiting, trying to be patient.
The computer is wanting you to execute physically and mentally demanding challenges for it to be up and running.
In your mind the things that you were going to do at home slowly fade away………
Hours after finishing time the computer finally clears and you are able to make your way home but there is no time or strength to be able to do anything once home, you are exhausted!

Would you demand a meeting with the Company’s IT expert?

Would you expect it to be fixed the very next day?

You certainly would not put up with it again.

To a Truckie, this is happening

EVERY…. SINGLE ….. DAY!

Beginning the day out west, loaded with essential produce for those living in the Sydney region.

An easy run through to Orange, Bathurst, Yetholme, Wallerawang- only 120klms to go, you can smell that chicken schnitty you’ll have for dinner.
And then it happens………
the traffic starts building and building, grinding to halt at Lithgow.

The only thing to do is wait…. and be patient.

The traffic starts crawling ahead but you know to be able to get back on track you will need to be extra vigilant, extra cool and be able to manoeuvre tight corners all while the oncoming traffic streams ahead.

A sigh of relief once back on the Great western Highway at Mount Vic.

Hours after your scheduled finishing time you arrive…… no energy to grab a chicken schnitty just a bunk and sleep…….

Ready to tackle the same again tomorrow & the next day & the next month………….

Would any other workplace put up with this, especially a government one?

I had a meeting with Jenny Aitchison MP before her election to parliament.

Discussing the critical need in road repairs in regional areas- I have never forgotten the reply.

“Parliamentarians only receive accolades for announcing new roads or opening them- never for the crucial repairs”

True to Jenny’s word, social media is filled with daily announcements and openings in the metropolitan areas.

Like a stab in the chest- regional areas are regulated to the slim pickings of what’s left in the kitty- if any.

It really is the Great Divide!

Please read this post from Ross Transport- our Industry will be decimated unless we are given strong support & help from the government.
This affects every Australian and will determine how we live in the future.
Thank you Ross Transport for continually supporting our industry while trying to keep everything together - it’s heartbreaking. 💔

🚛 Right now, the trucking industry is hurting… AND BADLY.

And it’s beyond disappointing… it’s disgraceful that immediate relief is still nowhere to be seen when we have been battling these skyrocketing fuel prices for nearly a month.

Behind every truck on the road is a business fighting to stay afloat.
Fuel prices have surged, and for a mid-sized fleet of around 50 trucks, that’s an extra $30,000 PER DAY just to keep moving.

That’s roughly $600,000 a month in additional fuel costs….money that simply doesn’t exist in an industry already running on razor-thin margins.

Yet operators are expected to carry that burden while waiting 30–90 days for fuel levy adjustments to catch up. Fuel levies and fuel adjustments do not cover this cost but they do help. It does not help cash flow though when businesses are paying fuel bills daily or weekly to keep fuel limits down and waiting up to 90 days for payment.

How is that sustainable?

At the same time, the government continues to benefit, collecting increased GST revenue and fuel excise off the back of rising prices. This is the real kicker!!

Once again, our industry is treated like the bottom of the barrel…
Not the backbone that keeps this country fed, housed, and supplied with critical goods and medical equipment.

And for those who say, “just park the trucks up” — that’s not reality.

Because the moment a compliant operator steps back, a non-compliant operator fills the gap.
Cheaper rates. Lower standards. More risk.

That doesn’t fix the problem, it makes it worse.
It drives down the industry, damages long-term sustainability, and punishes those doing the right thing.

📉 Transport operators aren’t profiteering, we’re absorbing, surviving, and in many cases, sinking.

⚠️ This is not sustainable.
⚠️ This is not fair.
⚠️ And this cannot continue.

We are not asking for handouts, we are asking for urgent, practical relief…. not next month, not next quarter… like last week.

Because if compliant operators disappear…
Everyone will feel it.

We will continue talking about this issue daily until something is done. This issue just doesn’t affect us but every Australian owned trucking business whether they have 1 truck or 100 trucks.

We are proud of the fleet we have and the business we have created over the last 50 years but right now and the last 12 months has been the biggest uphill climb and it’s just blow after blow that we are expected to absorb.

Anthony Albanese Australian Labor Party it’s time to do something positive and constructive for this country and our businesses. Not one business hasn’t been struggling since you came into power. You’re doing NOTHING positive or productive.

🚨FATAL ON BELLS LINE ROAD🚨

Not if but when…….

LV drivers please be patient and aware of all Heavy vehicles while navigating this road.

Sometimes heavy vehicles must cross over to the incorrect lane to negotiate a tight bend, this is not reckless driving this is safe driving.

Truck drivers have already been abused by LV drivers not understanding the complexity of navigating this stretch of road in a semi trailer.

All roads aren’t the same and this road has not been designed to carry excessive amounts of traffic, during winter it will be exceptionally dangerous.

Only essential traffic should be authorised to use this road while the Great Western Highway is closed.
