DEB'S Travels 2024

DEB'S Travels 2024 It's all about the bucket list. Michael and Morris didn't get to see everything so it's up to me.

Thursday 29th May 2025

Stayed put in Camooweal for a day of work and a glass of wine.
Too damned cold to do anything with a howling wind that is coming off ice and every now and then a few drops of rain.

Had to pull the awning in because of the wind and even though Mumbles is still attached to the car, put the legs down because the wind is so strong it felt like it wanted to flip Mumbles onto its side.

Surprisingly, although I have had to dig out some warm clothes and use the electric blanket overnight the camper is warmer than you would expect, and I shouldn't complain there are people here who are in tents.

Wednesday 29th May

Said goodbye to Adels Grove with a cloudy day and rain expected.

Packed up and left at 10 to travel 82 km to Gregory taking 1h50m because of water and slippery red dust road.

Then down to Camooweal, only 220 km but 3+ hours with a lot of dirt road and a muster on the way.

Got the last powered spot at the pub. And then it turned into winter. The wind is like ice. Will be all blankets on tonight and the cabin closed up and curtains closed for the first time.

Tuesday 27th May

Unexpected move at Adels Grove this morning so took advantage to move to a full solar spot which also put me close to the amenities (great showers and toilets, free laundry and the creek right behind).

Might stay another day.

Got plenty of work done and then enjoyed a swim.

Monday 27th May

Turned out very different than intended. Left Mt Isa 9.30ish, travelling to Adels Grove which is about 90 km away from Gregory but I took a road that everyone said was fine despite the road having a closed sign up.

Should have been here by 2 latest. Arrived at 5 having to return down the 80 km of dirt road because if it's flooded forget it.

Every but if my skill to reverse the camper out of a flooded area with logs and road damage restricting my movement.

Did but wow ... Video is of an earlier crossing

Sunday 25th May

If Michael had known about Moondarra Lake in Mt Isa we would have lived there.

Wow. Huge, clean, plenty of access. Cool without being cold. Amazing 55 minutes on the kayak.

Also found eggs at the Foodstore so even better

Saturday, May 24 2025

Took a tour out to the Mary Kathleen Uranium Mine with 7 others.

So glad I went as it is really interesting but even more glad someone else was doing the driving and in their vehicle as it was rough. More ruts than roads and I would not like to have put the Isuzu through that. Well beyond my comfort zone.

Wednesday 21st May 2025

Hadn't intended to leave Corella Dam for another day or two but no water left in Mumbles and not putting dam water with green blue algae into the tanks.

So moved to Mt Isa and a stay at a Discovery Park with an ensuite so guess who is having a very long hot shower tonight.

Simple set up and water tanks are now full again.

Hoping to do a tour out to Mary Kathleen Uranium Mine as well, just waiting on confirmation so that will determine if a 2 or 3 day stay.

Did get a drive through site so a bit of a cheat.

Tuesday 20th May 2025It's cold. It's only 6 at the dam.
