Clare Valley Aerodrome

Clare Valley Aerodrome Connecting the Clare Valley with Australia It's also an easy flight to regional Queensland and the Top End.

The Clare Valley Aerodrome is located on RM Williams Way 14kms North of the township of Clare and 10 minutes from the picturesque Clare Valley wine region. The region boasts a scenic array of pristine farmland, quaint vineyards, and heritage buildings, which from the sky, looks like a patchwork of villages and trees. The Aerodrome was constructed in 2010 to bring aerial activities to the Clare Val

ley region and to connect the mid north with surrounding states and cities. It's the perfect stop-off location between the South and the North (from Adelaide to the Flinders Ranges and beyond), and the West and the East, (between Western Australia and Victoria). With more than 35 cellar doors to visit, an array of bed & breakfast and luxury accommodation options and fine dining restaurants aplenty, the Clare Valley is a fantastic place to stay and visit. Pickups and car tours can be arranged from the Aerodrome to explore the region. The building of the Aerodrome:

In 2010, the CVFG completed parts of Stage One of the Action Plan to establish an Aerodrome for the region. The Aerodrome features a North-South 1200m x 18m runway, built to RFDS standards for aircraft 5,700kg. Recently, a 600m long grass cross strip has been completed. The Aerodrome provides:

- aerial fire fighting capabilities for a safer Clare Valley
- supports agricultural aerial spraying
- infrastructure for agricultural, commercial and recreational aviation
- an aerial gateway for tourism and business
for a future airpark concept
- flight training abilities

Great TAF reading

✈️✈️ THE EAST COAST LOW TAF ✈️✈️

They say the longer the TAF, the less chance there is of flying. Take one look at DUBBO (YSDU) on Tuesday morning and it's hard to argue with that.

We had an IFR charter flight to Dubbo on Tuesday - due to arrive at around 9:30am local time, and this was the TAF staring back at us during planning. Rain, fog, heavy rain, multiple TEMPO and PROB30 groups stacked on top of each other.

For student pilots still building their TAF reading skills — this is a great real world example of a TAF doing exactly what it's supposed to do. Telling you the truth before you go!!

Great little trick to get RWY numbers down packed

Great little trick to get RWY numbers down packed

Most pilots memorise runway numbers.
The smarter pilots understand the pattern behind them.

Every runway has a reciprocal heading exactly 180° opposite.
That means you can find the opposite runway by simply adding 18.

Runway 09 becomes 27.
Runway 14 becomes 32.
Runway 01 becomes 19.

And if the number goes above 36, you subtract 36 to wrap around again.

Small concepts like this save time in the exam and reduce mistakes under pressure. Especially in Air Law, Navigation, and Radio Aids questions where runway orientation matters more than students realise.

Understanding the logic always beats memorising random facts.

Follow for weekly exam breakdowns and pilot study tips.

At 18, Pilot Rose is aiming to become the youngest female to complete a solo circumnavigation in a general aviation aircraft. So far, she has covered more than 15,000 km across 25 airports, including a visit to Parafield this morning.

The flight is raising funds for Little Wings and helping lift awareness of aviation as a career path for young people.

It was great to welcome Pilot Rose this morning and we wish her well on her journey! ✈️

A remarkable man who made theory make sense.

A remarkable man who made theory make sense.

It is with very heavy hearts that we share the news that Bob Tait passed away quietly yesterday, just before 5:00 pm, with family present.

Bob was much more than the name on the front of a book. He was a teacher, mentor, storyteller, pilot, author and friend to so many people across the aviation community. His ability to explain difficult things in a simple, practical and memorable way helped generations of pilots through their training, exams and flying careers.

For many of us, Bob’s books were part of our own aviation journey. For others, Bob himself was the voice at the front of the classroom, the calm explanation when something did not make sense, or the encouraging words that helped them keep going.

We know this news will be felt deeply by many students, pilots, instructors, schools and aviation families across Australia.

Paul, Maree and the Bob Tait Team would like to thank everyone who has supported Bob, his family, and the business over many years. It has been our privilege to continue Bob’s work, and we remain committed to protecting and carrying forward his legacy with the same care, honesty and dedication that he built it on.

We would also like to reassure everyone that Bob Tait’s Aviation Theory School and the Bob Tait Store remain open and operating as normal.

Thank you, Bob, for everything you gave to aviation.

Blue skies, mate.
