The wait is over! K160 will haul its FIRST Goldfields Explorer train on the Victorian Goldfields Railway tomorrow — Friday 28 August!

And this won’t be just any trip...

🚂 K160 + J549 — DOUBLE HEADING! 🚂

For the first time in more than 20 years, these two iconic locomotives will work together, powering the Goldfields Explorer through the Victorian countryside.

After 12 years away, the wait is almost over! K160 will make her highly anticipated return to the Victorian Goldfields Railway on Saturday 22 August, travelling from Melbourne to Castlemaine before continuing on to Maldon.

🎟️ The Vintage Train is SOLD OUT — but everyone is welcome to come and witness this incredible moment! Bring your camera, bring your family and be part of K160's return to the VGR.

This is a moment 12 years in the making — and we want to see the railway community out in force to welcome K160 home! 🚂

🔥 And this is just the beginning...

K160 will haul Goldfields Explorer services on Sunday 30 August and Fridays & Sundays throughout September, bringing the unmistakable smell and sound of a coal-fired steam locomotive back to the VGR.

There will also be a very special double-header when K160 and J549 work together for the first time in more than 20 years!

🎥🚂 LIGHTS, CAMERA... STEAM ACTION!

The Victorian Goldfields Railway recently welcomed the team from ABC's Back Roads as they explored the historic township of Maldon—and of course, there was only one proper way to arrive... by heritage train! 🚂

Presenter Lisa Miller enjoyed the full VGR experience, travelling in First Class before joining our crew in the locomotive cab for a spectacular arrival into Maldon Station.

We're thrilled to have been part of showcasing our beautiful region and can't wait for you to see the episode when it airs later this year (around December).

📺 You'll be able to watch it on ABC TV or stream it anytime on ABC iview.

🎈 50 Years of the CMRPS
🚂 40 Years of Operating Trains
🛤️ 30 Years of Running Between Maldon & Muckleford

This special Members & Volunteers Day will feature one of the biggest operating line-ups of the year, including:
• Mixed trains and goods workings
• Banking operations
• Multiple train crossings at Muckleford
• Heritage locomotives including J549, T395 and Y133
• Evening trains with unforgettable listening stops under the night sky

Whether you're a long-time supporter, railway enthusiast or simply looking for a spectacular day of heritage rail action, this is an event you won't want to miss.

🎟️ CMRPS Members and Volunteers travel FREE, while tickets for the general public will be available from the booking office on the day, giving unlimited travel across all services.
