Thank you to the Carnarvon community and the many people across the region who have supported R&L Couriers over the years, and especially throughout this recent matter.
Today, following a thorough investigation, the Ranger reviewed the GPS data, footage and other evidence provided by R&L Couriers and confirmed that our driver has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
The investigation established that:
* the dog escaped from a transport cage that was not supplied by R&L Couriers;
* our driver did not release the animal; and
* our driver has been truthful in his account of the incident from the very beginning.
We would like to extend our thanks to Nathaniel, the Ranger, who attended to investigate the matter, spoke with us and to our driver, and personally informed us when the dog had been found. His efforts and communication were greatly appreciated. Also, to Mary from SAFE Carnarvon whom we have worked closely with for over 10 years, thank you for your endearing support.
Since this occurred, R&L Couriers has worked alongside the relevant agencies to assist in every possible way to help ensure the safe return of the dog, while continuing to provide the essential courier services our regional communities rely upon every day.
As a busy, transport logistics company, we were not in a position to monitor or respond to social media commentary in real time while the investigation was ongoing. We were also unable to comment publicly while the necessary processes were underway, and we appreciate the patience of those who understood the importance of allowing those processes to run their course.
During that time, our employees, owners and our business were subjected to threatening messages, abusive phone calls, harassment and public accusations before the facts had been established. It is disappointing that inaccurate and unverified information was publicly shared without allowing the proper authorities to complete their investigation. When allegations are presented as fact before they are verified, the damage to individuals, businesses and community trust can be significant and long-lasting.
To everyone who offered support and understanding during this time, thank you! It has been appreciated by our staff and our business, particularly our driver, who has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
Now that the investigation has concluded and the facts have been established, we trust that the outcome will be respected, that the harassment will cease, and that the importance of verifying information before sharing it publicly will be recognised.
