A full room and plenty of conversation at NTRO Edge: Transport: The Community Connector in Brisbane yesterday.
From the future demands of Brisbane to the very different role transport plays across regional and remote Queensland, the conversation kept coming back to one thing: transport is ultimately about people and access.
The upcoming challenges of the 2032 Olympic Games were described as a “two-week sneak peek of the future”, with some public transport routes potentially carrying many times their normal passenger numbers all while freight and the wider network still needs to keep moving.
We also heard about the importance of transport as a connection to family, healthcare, education and opportunity in regional communities, including one story from recent flooding where a high-rail vehicle carried more than 3,500 people, first responders, essential goods and even one very precious little kangaroo across an isolated community.
