It doesn't matter who it was. The damage has been done and nothing changes that.

Somewhere out there tonight a family got the knock on the door that no trucking family ever wants.

And the rest of us are sitting in our bunks or eating our meals alone at some servo table in the middle of nowhere reading the news and feeling that weight come down heavy.

That quiet sadness that only we understand.

It could have been any of us. Doesn't matter how good you are. Doesn't matter how safe.

How many times you kicked your tyres before you pulled out. How many times you dodged cattle in the dark or held it together when the road tried to take you.

The best of us have fallen.

We carry the most dangerous job in this nation and most people don't even notice until a highway closes.

When one of us vanishes and becomes nothing but a whisper in the wind our mates just keep thundering down the road because that's what we do. We don't stop. We can't stop. The load still has to move.

But we feel it. Every single one of us feels it.
