This hilly terrain CAD Mower was really unusual. Twin rear wheels for enhanced stability and a pendulum seat so the driver was always sitting level, regardless of the slope of the land.

Some of the loads we've done this post couple of weeks. A couple of day trips because people were overseas and then back into it.

One of these loads was interesting to strap down and we probably over strapped it but better safe than sorry.

This customer is going to love this little Kubota Excavator which we are bringing up from Melbourne to the Gold Coast hinterland. It's a cracker of a unit.

One of our specialties is that we also tow loads, caravans, industrial trailers, jet skis, horse floats and the occasional boat.

The thing that we do, is we focus upon the mechanics of what we are towing. Within 20mins of leaving we stop and if needed we adjust the ride characteristics of what we are towing, (which can mean moving the load, adjusting the hitch height etc).

Another thing we do is check all bearing temperatures and we do this at every stop along the way.

Take this load, a new trailer and machine and within the 1st hour it became clear we had a right front wheel hub overheating.

First action was to check all tyre pressures which in this case needed some adjustment. That however did not fix the issue so we then did a trailer brake assessment to see if we had a tight or dragging brake pad. We did not but we backed them off further to be sure.

So, stopping every hour, keeping the customer informed along the way, we conducted further tests. Our testing led us to believe that it was either an overtight castle nut, a lack of grease, or a faulty/incorrectly assembled wheel bearing.

The first two we could have sorted if we could remove the bearing dust cap but not wanting to damage this we left it alone.

So the 7 hour trip then became more like 9-10 hours with more regular stops and a further reduction to driving speeds in order to let that one wheel hub cool. It seemed to have no problem cooling so I felt that we could push on and thankfully the customer was happy to then take the delivery onfarm later that night.

Job completed to our customers satisfaction, and the handover included a detailed discussion as to our suggested course of action to fix the problem.

Sorry for the long winded post but I just wanted to show how we might be different to others that tow. We care and we treat the load as if it were our own.

As a freight mover, we can deal with very different load conditions from day to day, requiring constant adjustment in handling and preparation.

One day can involve manually loading and unloading second-hand equipment in difficult conditions, while the next may involve fully crated freight ready for straightforward transport.

This week was a good example of those contrasts. I took a load from North of Brisbane to down past Bega, where nobody was on-site, so I had to unload and position the equipment myself near a busy road with limited parking, which required extra vigilance.

Contrasting that was a simple run down to Melbourne to pick up a crated mower. That mower was delivered today between Bathurst and Orange, where the receiver and his neighbour helped unload with a tractor before an easy trip back into Sydney.

A highlight of the week though was I saw a lot of beautiful country and meet some great people.

It's amazing how things just work out. I was meant to head north last night but was still really struggling with the flu, so stayed at home.

Today as I prepared to head north I won a bid for a buggy from ACT to Qld. Funny thing is I'd only been looking at that buggy in the auction yard a week prior when I went in to pick up a large Toro Mower for down south. That's a seriously nice buggy.

Alignment of the stars or what.
