Importing into Australia? You could be losing profit margin you never see coming.
It is rarely the freight rate. It is two charges most importers can't even tell apart: demurrage and detention.
One is your container stuck at the port. The other is the empty you didn't get back in time. For full-container importers, detention is usually the quiet one that hurts the most.

Furniture importers are right to watch freight costs closely. But the lowest freight rate does not always mean the lowest landed cost.

Real cost control starts before the shipment is booked. Container space optimisation, supplier packing, consolidation options, ex-works collection, origin charges and documentation readiness can all affect the final cost.

Then comes the compliance risk. Biosecurity requirements, product materials, timber species, treatment, packaging, supplier declarations, Certificates of Origin, duty, GST and customs documentation all need to be considered early.

Several major ocean freight services are experiencing ongoing schedule volatility right now. That means blank sailings, port omissions, vessel delays, and cargo rolling. Space for June sailings is extremely tight, and rates have moved.
