Controversial opinion: there’s a wrong way and a right way to eat a scone, and this is the right way.

Jam first. Always.

Take it from me, I’m the High Tea Queen!

18 months ago, I started a travel blog.

Today, I've published my first ebook.

Japan for First Timers is a complete guide to the 12-night trip we took through Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, Hakone and Tokyo during cherry blossom season.

I poured everything I know into it - our itinerary, favourite experiences, food recommendations, practical travel tips and all the things I wish I'd known before visiting Japan for the first time.

It's the guide I wish I'd had before we booked our trip.

If Japan is on your travel wish list, I hope this guide helps you plan an unforgettable adventure!

One of Kyoto’s best views comes with monkeys.

After an uphill slog you’ll reach the top of Arashiyama Monkey Park, where you’ll be rewarded with incredible views across the city and the chance to watch the resident monkeys roam freely around the mountain.

You can even feed them from inside the special hut.

Definitely worth the climb.

Have you visited Kyoto’s monkey park?

I’ve been to a lot of high teas, but this was a first for me.

Proper clotted cream on an Australian high tea!

As someone who grew up eating cream teas in England, this little detail made me far more excited than it probably should have.

Have you ever found clotted cream on an Australian high tea?

And before anyone asks, jam first is the correct answer.

Part art gallery, part interactive experience, and unlike anything we’ve visited before.

This is TeamLab Planets in Tokyo.

Would you add this to your Japan itinerary?

Have you ever seen a deer do this?

These deer have learnt to bow to people holding food. It’s cute but they can get pretty aggressive!

📍Nara, Japan

Would you feed these deer?

This cafe in Tokyo will recreate any photo as 3D art on your coffee or hot chocolate foam.

Our kids chose a photo of our dog…and a spider!
