Get out and Look! There are truck drivers giving the rest of us a bad name. Whether it’s lack of knowledge, training or skills, trucks, be they rigids, semi trailers or B-Doubles in the wrong hands translate to destruction on public roads. There are more and more instances of trucks and truck drivers causing havoc in the community they, and we, are supposed to be serving. ,

Oddly enough, it turns out trucks need fuel. Running out of diesel in the truck is pretty embarrassing but you don’t have to be empty to find yourself in trouble. It’s very different running out of fuel in a Detroit, a Cat and a Cummins. Two stories, one in a Cummins and the other in my DDEC3 12.7 litre Detriot Series 60.

There’s more to think about than just the trailer clearing the corner. Remember with a four foot pin, your trailer can stick out as much as a foot and a half when turning - even much more with a set back turntable. Just more things to watch out for in the truck.

Crash, Boom, Bang! - Truck takes out Beenleigh Service Station. What was he thinking?
A B-Double uses a Beenleigh Qld Service Station to turn around taking out the roof and destroying the pumps, and then taking out a power pole on the way out. And off he goes, not a care in the world.
Police catch up with the driver soon after at Yatala
BP five minutes down the road.
Is this the state of Australian Road Transport?

Transport is difficult enough, even when you do know where you're going. Driving the truck is the easy part, it's the planning, identifying a safe and efficient route and avoiding the multitude of hazards that are thrown our way on a daily basis.

A Scania towing a B-double ends up down East Dorrigo Way and fails to negotiate a bend, resulting in its trailers sliding off the road and down the mountain.

At what point do you stop and reassess? If you need to ring police - do it. If you need to split up - do it, if you need to reverse out of a situation - do it.

Don’t you hate it when you’re in the truck, you’ve committed yourself to a corner and then you see a sign saying NO TRUCKS. Reversing out is not always an option, particularly when it would be onto a major road through traffic lights.

Ol’ mate here finds himself in a tricky situation after following directions to a construction site. Luckily help arrives in the form of Ash Anderson, Truck Instructor who just happened to be passing by.

I’ve been missing in action a bit lately. It’s all due to some health issues centring around the heart…This video looks at what can be going on with your health even in you seem fit and well.This is my personal experience from heart attack, to stroke, to cardiomyopathy, heart failure and implant of a pacemaker and defibrillator.Got to keep on smiling because I'm still the luckiest bloke I know. Any one of these things could have killed me but somehow it's still been a positive experience, saved over and over by pure good luck in timing, location and consequence.Please, if you have the slightest inkling something is not quite right, see a doctor and demand scans. It could literally save your life. Cattle Truck Hits Bridge

I’m sure we’ve all seen the news of the cattle truck that hit the railway bridge on Alexandra Ave in South Yarra. Cattle were injured and killed in the truck crash and it simply should not have happened.

If you as a truck driver are off route, or off your intended route, because of an accident, roadworks or some other unforeseen reason, EXERCISE CAUTION. If you can, pull up and workout how to get where you need to safely. It’s frightening being responsible for a large vehicle in unfamiliar places with unknown obstacles potentially lurking around every turn.

The truck driver involved in this incident not only shouldn’t have been were he was, but exercised no caution to ensure his safe passage. The bridge is clearly marked 4.0m and any livestock driver has got to know stock crates are 4.6m in height… plus the cattle often stick their heads up, or worse. Just how do you show so little caution and end up in this situation?

I’m sure the driver had no intention of this accident happening, but he made no attempt to ensure it wouldn’t.

There’s been talk about the B-Double that crashed in Coffs Harbour. The usual comments about ethnicity have come up, and I don’t know, or care whether the blokes pink green or brown. The story here is accidents keep happening in the trucking industry and often it’s down to inexperience or complacency.
Coffs Harbour has history when it comes to accidents. It’s the last town left on the Pacific Highway and as any regular overnight coast road runners will tell you, it’s always an experience.
The roads around Coffs are lethally slippery and whether it’s Banana Hill, the main street or the infamous corner outside the Pub, losing traction, in the wet, or dry, is nothing uncommon.
