Abbot Point & Galilee Basin Projects - Myths and Facts

Abbot Point & Galilee Basin Projects - Myths and Facts We Support the opening of the Galilee Basin and the projects associated with it. From the expansion at Abbot Point to the building of the mines and railway!

This page will share the truth and de-bunk the lies. Myths versus Facts. This explains who we are. This is why we are Fighting. We are Fighting for our Region , our Industries, our Jobs, our Businesses!! We are not affiliated with any group, political party or industry. We have not received any funding from any outside group or individual – none whatsoever!! We are a kitchen table group

of citizens concerned about what is happening across rural and regional Australia, and especially our local area of Bowen and Surrounds, by the harm being done by the anti coal activist organizations and their followers. We are surprised and alarmed by how the Anti Coal movement is now in bed with some industries. Such as Wind and Solar. And how they are also very heavily involved with some parts of the Government. We are dismayed that people have been forced to sell homes or have lost their livelihoods because of tax-payer funded environmental organizations telling lies, misinformation and using delaying tactics to try and kill the coal industry. We are angered by the scope of the anti coal fraud. We are not convinced at the efficacy or efficiency of their answer to Coal, such as Wind and Solar. We are not collectively climate-change “deniers”. We are not NIMBYs. We are appalled by how anti coal supporters dismiss victims, ridicule those who have different opinions and vilify those who support the coal industry.. We are appalled by the dishonesty of the anti coal environmental organizations, its supporters and those who operate within it. We are disappointed that so many everyday Australians have been conned by these eco terrorists and have not had the get up and go to go and do some real research into the truth. And, lastly, we do care about the Environment and our Great Barrier Reef. We are not fooled by the lies and scaremongering. This is why we are fighting so hard. And, we will never GIVE UP!!

Statement from Bravus Mining

"Some breaking news – we’re taking the Queensland Government to the Planning and Environment court to fight a clear misuse of the state’s environmental laws.

We have applied for a review of a 2023 Department of Environment, Science, and Innovation decision to impose a punitive Environmental Protection Order on our business despite the fact no environmental harm or breach of regulations had occurred at our Carmichael mine in central Queensland.

The Carmichael mine has some of the strictest environmental conditions of any resources project in Australia’s history and we’re proud to comply with those approvals. We don’t need unnecessary regulator overreach when the requirements of our comprehensive Environmental Authority (EA) approvals are already being met.

It’s not okay for regulators to unfairly target law abiding businesses and make us out to be villains when we had already publicly committed to the further scientific work that this EPO relates to.
It appears the Department is simply buckling to pressure from anti-fossil fuel activists and their supporters in the media who’ll do and say anything to shut Queensland’s coal and gas sector down.

An Environmental Protection Order should not be used to apply punitive regulation to businesses that are doing the right thing and already meeting all the requirements of the Department’s own regulations, and it’s decisions like this that make Queenslanders lose faith in the Queensland Government’s willingness to treat responsible businesses fairly.

Australia’s coal industry is enjoying a rebound in exports – with strong demand predicted “for decades to come”. This report from The Australian demonstrates that the coal in Australia really is some of the best in the world – and there’s plenty of it.

We’re proud to be a part of the Queensland economy, supporting jobs, small businesses and community groups across the state, and we plan to continue meeting the demand for coal for decades to come.

Fun fact: There is a reason why Bowen Rail Company has curved wagons (and it's not just because they look good)! The wagons have curved sides with a smooth finish because the curved design is a shape that gets stronger when carrying a load - very important as we're moving a lot of coal. The outside of the wagons is smooth, while the inside has ribbing, which also helps with the strength of the wagons when they are loaded. 👍

Criminal charges brought against anti-coal activist Coedie McAvoy for the alleged assault of two Carmichael mine workers in February will be heard in Clermont Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Mr McAvoy allegedly assaulted the Indigenous environmental ranger and a Bravus security guard as the pair went about their routine and lawful work on the Carmichael mining lease, near Clermont in central Queensland, on 27 February.

It is alleged the assault occurred when Mr McAvoy and an associate used a trail bike to block the track the workers were driving on, which forced them to stop.

Mr McAvoy then opened the door of the vehicle the Bravus workers were travelling in and allegedly assaulted the Indigenous environmental ranger and the Bravus security guard.

Two weeks prior to the alleged assault, Mr McAvoy made public threats to our Indigenous workforce via his social media channels, stating ‘If you think you can come into my backyard with a stupid ar** Adani security, you are sorely mistaken’

Mr McAvoy went on to say: ‘If I have to lay punishment on every single one of those people who come out here and they don’t come through my ceremony, then I will lay that punishment on them myself’.

We continue to provide support to the two victims of the alleged assault, as well as to their colleagues who have been badly shaken by the incident and fear they may be targeted next.

Like every law-abiding Queenslander, mine workers and cultural heritage workers at our Carmichael mine have the right to feel safe at work and go about their jobs free from intimidation, harassment, or violence.

Myth busting time! Despite the current bumper coal prices, we have seen some speculation that there will be no market for our coal exports in the future.

We just wanted to reiterate what we have always said: We have already secured the market for the 10 million tonnes of thermal coal per annum that will be produced at our Carmichael mine in Central Queensland.

As noted by the International Energy Agency, and other respected energy market researchers, there is continuing strong demand for thermal coal from countries in south and south-east Asia where nations are rapidly developing and people are determined to improve their quality of life by getting access to reliable, affordable electricity.

We believe in the science of climate change and that is why we are proud to be a part of the Adani Group, which is investing in both renewable and thermal (coal) energy to help meet increasing demand for electricity in our region while also transitioning to a lower carbon future.

The Adani Group is India’s largest private power company and the world's largest multi-national solar power company, with big plans to expand our renewable energy capacity in the future.

You may have seen some media attention recently regarding our ongoing court case with anti-fossil fuel activist, Ben Pennings.

Since the commencement of this case more than two years ago, Mr Pennings has repeatedly misconstrued the facts in order to solicit donations for his crowd-funding campaign, and this latest media stunt appears to be no different.

Despite what Mr Pennings would have you believe, this court case is not about inflicting hardship on Mr Pennings and his family, rather we are protecting our rights, as well as those of our employees and contractors, to carry out legal and legitimate business activities free from intimidation and harassment.

Mr Pennings also regularly fails to mention that the Supreme Court has ruled overwhelmingly in favour of Bravus (formerly Adani) in every application brought to the court relating to the case thus far.

These rulings are just a small part of our larger legal case against Mr Pennings, where we claim that Mr Penning has orchestrated a sustained campaign of harassment and intimidation against Adani’s business, employees, contractors and potential business partners spanning almost a decade.

The trial for this civil legal action is expected to commence in early 2023.

It's again!

We've noticed the anti-coal activists are spreading more misinformation, claiming the Carmichael Mine is ""Australia's biggest coal mine"" and we wanted to correct the record.

The Carmichael Mine is one of 125 coal mines in Australia and in its first stage will produce 10 million tonnes of coal per annum.

This is only a small fraction of the total coal produced in Australia and a minor percentage of the thermal coal used in the world each year.

Even worse, the ‘Net Zero’ plans they do have – replacing reliable baseload power with sketchy solar and wind farms – will only make life more costly.

How's this for a before and after?

The Carmichael Rail Network balloon loop has been completed for several months now receiving regular visits from Bowen Rail Company trains as they fill up with Carmichael coal, ready for export.

The balloon loop is like a giant U-turn... for a train. It means that coal trains arriving to collect coal at the Carmichael Mine, can easily change direction ready to take the product to the Port for export.
