We stayed at Reef World on the Outer Great Barrier Reef for 2 days. We did the Reef Sleep with Cruise Whitsundays. We checked out the Reef Suites as well but we are glad we did the Reef Sleep. Our new overseas friends who did the reef suites said it was hard to sleep with the light in the water attracting the fish all night.
Our swags were awesome, slept under the stars and seen the beautiful sunrise.
We had great weather with no wind so we enjoyed some snorkelling over the reef.
The reef is spectacular with so many different types of fish and corals all very healthy. We seen plenty of fish and even a few turtles and white tip reef sharks and an eagle ray.
We had a boat load of people come onboard from a cruise ship for the morning and we also had the daytrippers who came out to the pontoon with us until 3pm.
The best part was when all the day trippers went back and we had the pontoon to ourselves with our new friends.
There was only 12 of us and 9 were from overseas.
There were 6 staff who took care of us. They were all friendly and professional. The meals and service were amazing, the chef did a great job.
Beer, wine & soft drink were included. You could buy spirits if you wanted them.
It was a fantastic experience and even tho it took 3hrs to get there on the boat it was so worth it.

Day 17 - last day in Italy
We travelled back on the train to Rome Train terminal. Then we caught the metro to Oestia as we were staying near the airport for our last night in Italy.
Uber works well in Italy but when I put it in to go to Oestia from Rome Terminal it was going to cost me 70 euro. If we caught a train to the airport and then an uber from the airport to our hotel it was the same. I was beginning to think I should have booked to stay in the city and took a train to the airport in the morning. So I rang the hotel to find out the best way to get to the hotel and they told me which metro to take and it only cost 1.50 euro. I am sharing this because if it sounds expensive, call the hotel and ask them the best way to get there. That phonecall saved me alot of money.
Oestia is a coastal town about 20mins from the Rome Airport. A lot of local people go there to relax to escape the city.
Thanks for following our trip to Italy. We had a wonderful time.
We flew direct with Qantas from Perth to Rome which worked really well - 15hrs 10mins. Qantas only does it over the European summer. I did love not having a layover anywhere. I think I would always do this route in future.

Day 16 - Monterosso, Cinque Terre
We took an uber from Nice to Ventimiglia where we took a train to Monterosso.
After checking into our hotel, we went for a swim. The weather is very hot and humid so we appreciated the swim even tho the sea was abit rough. The beach was packed.
We hopped on a boat for a sunset cruise to see the Cinco Terre - 5 Towns. It was abit rough but I am glad they didn’t cancel it. It was nice to see them again and for Dean it was his first time in Cinque Terre.
Our cruise was cut abit short for some reason so we didn’t really see the sunset.
We had a walk around the old town of Monterosso and shared a lovely seafood pizza for dinner.

Day 15 - Nice & Monte Carlo
We got off the boat and checked into our motel and went on a walking tour around Nice. We went to the flower market which wasn’t only flowers but souvenirs and fruit & veg and food.
We went on a tour to Eze Village, a perfume factory and Monte Carlo. We went to the casino and enjoyed looking at the expensive cars.
We finished the day with a dinner with some of our new friends and Christina from the boat at Le Frog. We weren’t game enough to try the snails and frogs.

Day 14 - Portofino, San Fruttuoso
Camogli
Our last day together we caught the tender in and then all went on a boat trip to San Fruttuoso and Camoglia then returned to Portofino by car.
We visited the old church in San Fruttuoso and had a lovely meal together in Camoglia and explored a little. We had an hour to shop in Portofino before returning to the boat.
Another wonderful day.

We have loved our cruise on It has been the best cruise we have done with only 150 guests and 200 crew. We loved that we only used tender boats twice as we were able to go into most ports being a yacht. The food and tours were awesome. Truly a luxurious and fun cruise. Strongly recommend. The crew really take good care of you.

Day 13 - Livorno
We took the train to Lucca and hired a bike and rode around the wall. Lucca is a city with a 4.5km wall around it. We visited a church and walked around a little and seen we were right in the middle of their Summer Music Festival. They were setting up for Pet Stop Boys on Monday.
We had lunch at Piazza Anfiteatro and then we caught the train back to Livorno.
The boat put on a dinner in the fortress with a wonderful evening of music. Very special evening.

Day 12 - Bastia, Corsica
We went on a little train to have a look around Bastia. We visited an old church. Dean & I went and found a beach for a swim and stopped along the way back to eat some French patisseries. Yes Corsica is a French island so we tried speaking in French at the patisserie.
We had a wine tasting of the wines from Corsica when we got back to the boat.
The ship did something different for dinner tonight. They did a circus style dinner and gave away prizes including a $500 voucher off one of their cruises. It was fun.

Day 11 - Sardinia changed to Elba due to bad weather
We had a lovely day in Elba relaxing at the beach. We asked the taxi to take us to the best beach and he took us for a 20min drive through the mountain to the other side of the island.
It cost us 20 euro for the umbrella and 2 chairs.

Day 10 - Capri
We went on a bus to Anacapri then on a chairlift to Monte Solaro where we drank expensive Prosecco (15 euro a glass).
Then we came back to Anacapri on the chairlift and went on the bus to Capri. We did some shopping in Capri and had a lemon sushi, it was so hot. Then we caught the cable car back to the Port.
Christina invited her group (20 of us) to a cocktail party in the evening.
Another great day.

Day 9 - Vatican Museum & the Sistine Chapel
You can’t come to Italy and not go to the Vatican. It is my second time there and i am still amazed by the paintings and sculptures.
We didnt see the new Pope as he was on holidays while his new residence is being renovated.
We booked a guided tour directly with the museum online. It allowed us to skip the lines - the only way to go.
