Ke kite anō. Goodbye . We have had a blast. From magnificent views to blustery rain and snow on bluebird days. We loved it all. We loved your mountains, your rugged cliffs, the beautiful sparkly schist stone, the crystal clear frigid waters of your lakes and gushing rivers, the sweet little lambs and the constant bird song everywhere! Randomly, the amazing plethora of amenities, even in the widest of places. But most of all, we love your people, how they make the best food and world class coffee, no matter how small the establishment, how people will go above and beyond to ensure you have the best time. Thanks to Nick for the superb wheels, the peeps of , and for some of the best burgers we have ever tasted and for the many baristas who ensured our coffee was always first class. But most of all to our sensational brother and sister in law: .adventures, and for being able to spend some true quality time with you guys. We really think that you are two of the best people on the planet: so kind and welcoming, the best hosts and the best tour guides. We are pretty certain we would not have seen a fraction of what we did without you ( 48 km of walking trails and 60+ of cycle trails!). We loved it all. 😍

The Wye Creek track!
A steep climb through lush beech rainforest, roots and mud underfoot, birdsong above, and a crisp cool bluebird day, this is pure South Island magic. The trail winds beside (and sometimes on top of!) an old pipeline and past cascading waterfalls before opening to dramatic cliffs — where you can watch fearless rock climbers in action. From the helicopter pad at the top, the views over Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding peaks are simply glorious — every step, every breath, completely worth it. Now the weather is a little more inducive to snuggling inside with the crochet!

The weather has been a bit wild and woolly down here, but we got off lightly compared to other parts of beautiful and it didn’t really stop us! A quick walk along Lake Wakutipu where we spotted a few very neat water spouts and white caps on the water! Then off to Queenstown Hill to see the basket of dreams, more sensational alpine peaks and descended through thick fir forest reminiscent of the Black Forest! Then down to Arthur’s pass to watch the swollen Shotover River roaring down the canyon. We managed blue skies and cool breezes and felt so blessed.

Bike ride around Lake Dunstan. Started with coffee and cake at Old Cromwell town and then headed off to the dam wall at Clyde. This is a grade 3 track and I am so grateful I had another super slick e-bike from to help me along the way! Gotta love the power mode. Finished off at for a super crisp Rosé to celebrate our ride 🚲 The scenery was next level rugged! This area is known for its lower rainfall and steep bare cliffs that are covered with thyme. It smelt sensational! The wind had already picked up and there were a few hairy moments when I thought I would be blown right into the water 🤣

Arrowtown. Since the mornings have been slightly damp, we take our time and begin with coffee! cafe did not disappoint. We were fortunate to get a warm spot inside to enjoy the surprisingly silky brew. Then off to the Lakes District museum where we spent a good 3 hours looking at the incredible displays. We did break for lunch for some spicy jerk chicken! ( no didn’t get a pic!) and then off to “tramp” the New Chum Track, a rugged but spectacular climb, winding steeply through hills and gullies, along old water races and with sweeping views over the Wakatipu Basin and glimpses of the snowcapped alps behind The track’s rough terrain and loose footing make it a decent workout. I am really pleased .adventures had spare poles as I am not known for my balance and grace 🤣 but its raw beauty and sense of isolation are worth every step. Up the top, we saw evidence of wild pigs. Luckily they kept well hidden, but I am sure they could see us. 🐖 A quick stop at to appreciate those rugged pioneer people 💕 another day well spent 💕

Last day in the and . Walked to the Nugget Point lighthouse and despite the weather doing its NZ best to blow us off the track, the coastline once again was beyond spectacular. And the bonus of a bit of wind and rain? Very few other humans! As the Germans say, there is no bad weather, only bad choices of clothing! But the rain left us enough to make the trek to the southern most tip of the mainland. Right in the middle of a sheep paddock 🐑 The wind was colossal and one can see this is not a rare event. Those beautiful ancient trees? Voted as some of the most beautiful in the world 😍 we stopped at for the best seafood chowder I have ever eaten. All home made, served with freshly baked bread. The owner even filled up our water bottles from his spring. Combined with an amazingly friendly hostess for our BnB, I have decided that the kiwis are some of the most friendly and kind people on the planet 💕 Drive back to Queenstown via Invercargill and glimpsed the alps of Milford Sound as well ( I was so entranced I forgot to take a pic). But I did manage to snap a silo being transported on a normal trailer !! NZ, I have been to visit you at least half a dozen times already, and every time I fall more in love with you

The glorious . Where the forest often kisses the Southern Ocean. The day began with a new dusting of snow on the Southern alps and our drive was interspersed with squally rain and brilliant sunshine. We saw the most beautiful rugged coastline imaginable. The wild Southern Ocean! Yes I managed to get my feet in! (Tick) the driftwood and windblown sand adds extra interest for the eye. Despite the wind, was being very tame and we managed to meet a very languid sealion who had found a sheltered sunny spot. Stopped at for lunch to test out whether their burgers are the best ( yes they were sensational!) and took a few short walks along the cliffs and into the rainforest to burn off some of those kilojoules! You can definitely feel the faerie magic down here!

Bicycle ride from Arrowtown to Mt Rosa yesterday. We rode along rushing brooks, alongside impossible chasms, on (very wobbly) suspension bridges. We saw goats, lots of bunnies, tiny birds and many many glorious spring blossoms. We also took time to check out the and taste the local produce, both liquid and baked!! The weather turned it on with with sensational blue skies and I cannot but feel so blessed to be with people I love in this sensational corner of the world right now And so many thanks to Nick from who supplied us with our sensational wheels 🚲
