Good evening folks. Hope all the dads out there have had a wonderful day. Rene had a lovely day but that will be in another post as this one was longer than I expected 🤦🏻‍♀️.

Thursday is where we are up to in Coffin Bay.
When you travel this magnificent country you get to see some amazing sights, places and meet some of the most beautiful people each and every day. Then there are some days that just blow you away. Today was one of those days. We were approached through our through this page by a gentleman who seen our recent post from Port Lincoln where I put up a photo of the huge Moreton Bay Fig trees. We were invited out to his property to see his Moreton Bay Fig trees and have a look through a renovated homestead they have been working on over time. So naturally we accepted his kind invitation. Poona Farm Estate was established back in 1871 and has proudly remained in Brian’s family through the generations.
We arrived and were warmly greeted by Brian and his lovely wife Rayleen who took us on a wonderful tour of their property which included the shearing shed which was being renovated for future functions and the beautiful homestead that was filled with so much history. I reckon those walls had a few incredible stories to tell too. This beautifully restored home was one of the original homesteads built back in 1870.
Their Moreton Bay Fig trees were something else. There were 3 truly magnificent trees that date back to around 1910 which took pride of place on their property. We loved how there were some old farming equipment still under the trees that the roots made sure they were never to be removed. The photos will tell that story.
Then Brian took us on a very informative tour around his incredible property which consisted of Lentil and Canola crops and had Lake Greenly and Mount Greenly right on its doorstep. He also showed us their contribution towards keeping the population of the tiny Pigmy Possums going. They have set up about a dozen breeding stations throughout the property for them to breed in and we had the pleasure of inspecting some of those boxes which had a few very tiny and cute babies. They looked like mice at first glance, but on a close inspection you can see their curly tails and distinctive little ears. Brian is very passionate about his family history and was all too happy to share his family’s story and how he and his wife are making sure the farm and its history continues down through the generations.
Then after a bit more of a drive around the property we headed back where Raelene was making lunch for us! Wow! We were a bit overwhelmed and very humbled with their hospitality. We sat around their dining table chatting for the next couple of hours getting to know more about them and telling them about our travels which was just wonderful. So, thank you Brian and Raelene for your hospitality and for opening up your beautiful home to us, sharing your family’s history and sharing your dreams which we really do hope take off in the direction you want. We will definitely try and visit again on our return back East next year.
After we left the farm, we thought we’d go for a quick drive up to Greenly Beach and Coles Point on our way home which were well worth looking at.
So, another absolutely fantastic day.

Friday and Saturday
The beauty of taking your time in one town is that you can have your quiet days where you do very little, days where you do a lot of driving around (usually due to the weather) and days where you explore and enjoy whats on offer around you. The last 2 days have been quiet days where we went for a lovely walk up to The Peckish Pelican cafe for a cuppa before continuing our walk to the boat ramp. Then back along the Oyster Walk which took you along the edge of the Bay, where you can admire the lovely waterfront homes with the best water views and the Spring flowers coming out in bloom. A great way to spend the day.
Then it was Rene’s turn to cook a meal. He loves his curry’s so he cooked a lamb shank Massaman curry in the Webber bbq. Normally I can eat this as he makes it mild for me. But this time!!! 🥵🥵 oh dear it was 🥵🥵, even when we added yogurt to it. Oh well, I will deal with it as the taste is good. So now we have a few meals ready for our next part of our adventures. And I even decided to cook a cake which I never do but it was nice to enjoy with a cuppa.

Decided to split the last few days into a couple of posts so it wasn’t so long 🤦🏻‍♀️.
Day 175/Wednesday of our journey across to WA.
Today we went on an amazing tour through Experience Coffin Bay Boat tours. We were taken out to one the oyster farms where we were given a very in-depth talk about the history and the farming industry of the Pacific Oysters. All while enjoying 1/2 dozen fresh delicious oysters 🦪 and a glass of w**e (it had to be w**e o’clock somewhere 🤷🏻‍♀️). It was truly fascinating seeing the oyster farms up close and learning all about them. There were 2 boats out there checking the progress of the oysters while we were there. Just the process of how these delicious delights are grown is truly incredible, so we learnt a lot and the whole process is way too much to try and write about on a post. There is an interesting time line information photo that will give you a taste of the history and when it all started back in the 1800’s.
We headed back after a very enjoyable 90 minutes out in the bay and relaxed at home chatting with our neighbours again. We even had some local visitors wander through the park with no care in the world. There are about 7 emu’s that wander around the streets and caravan park and have no fear of us humans and a mob of kangaroos also came in to enjoy the green grass.
Wednesday was a home day. You know those exciting days where you really need to do some cooking and cleaning etc 🤷🏻‍♀️. I put on a Beef Cheeks in Guinness slow cook 😋before we thought we would go up to the Coffin Bay Hotel for a delicious lunch. The hotel has a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and a great menu. We even had some of those local emu’s come up to the grassed area right outside to enjoy their lunch.
Then it was time for one of those really exciting jobs that need doing every so often…. Defrosting the freezer! Lucky we only have a small one. It’s a good way to find out exactly what you have and how much room you have to do more cooking. We now have room to get a few dozen closed oysters to enjoy when we leave here. Winning!!!

Good morning. It appears I forgot to post the video a few days ago from Wanna Lookout in the Lincoln National Park. So here it is. It does go for just under 3 minutes but I just couldn’t help myself lol. Just loved the waves crashing into the rocks. Hope you enjoy it.

Sunday was pack up day after an incredible 6 nights in Port Lincoln. We had some amazing days exploring the National Park, the Axel Stenross Maritime Museum and so many more incredible landmarks and lookouts. Also learning about the local history is always a great way to really appreciate a town. So thank you Port Lincoln for being so welcoming and having such a beautiful place to stay. We will be back one day.
We had one more thing to do before we left town and that was to take Kermit (the caravan) through the car wash and get rid of all the red mud from underneath. Then after that was done it was a stop at the Beach Bakery for a coffee.
We arrived in Coffin Bay at midday and set up at the caravan park. We took advantage of the winter special so we booked in for 5 nights due to the possible rain that, again, has been predicted. We had a quick drive around town after setting up to get our bearings before relaxing for the afternoon and chatting with our neighbours.

Monday we woke up to another gorgeous sunny day. It was washing day so up early and got 3 loads done before we made a decision on how to spend the day.
We organised a National Park pass so we can explore it over the few days we are here. But then we made another decision and that was to take advantage of another 5 nights at the winter special (last day today to book it). I suppose that’s the advantage of not having a timeframe. So we will be now spending 10 nights here in Coffin Bay. Plenty of time to explore the region and a few towns close by.
But in the meantime, today we headed into the Coffin Bay National Park. We drove down to the Point where there is a great lookout with views of Golden Island, Almonta Beach and the Whidbey Isles in the distance. There were several fantastic lookouts and breathtaking views along the way that had some incredible photo opportunities. We spent several hours just stopping off at all the vantage points, walking along the cliff faces listening and watching the waves crashing into the rocks and beaches. The swells were huge along the coastline and it was incredible to witness just the sheer power of them. The cliffs and rock formations are another spectacular sight that you can’t help but just stand there and admire. Another wonderful part of this National Park was all the wildlife. We seen a few kangaroos and a lot of emus. And again, there were quite a few with chicks which was such a wonderful sight to witness.
You can see that Spring is in the air with all the flowers starting to bloom. Days like today really make you appreciate what a beautiful country we live in.

Day 171 & 172 Port Lincoln. Grab yourself a bevie, it’s another long one 🤦🏻‍♀️🫶.
OH what a day Friday was!! Woke up to a stunning sunrise and watching the fishing boats head out through the bay.
First stop once we had our morning coffee was at the visitors centre to pick up the key needed to access the Lincoln National park gate that lead to Memory Cove. Before we got to this gate we drove to one of the most spectacular parts of the coastline. Overlooking Sleathford at the Wanna lookout we watched the waves come crashing into the beach and rocks below us. I don’t even think I have the words to give it justice. Just the sheer beauty that you could easily just sit and admire all day. Trying to capture the huge waves crashing against the rocks was a challenge but hoping the videos captured some of what we witnessed.
Then we continued on along a 4wd track that was really slow going. It was my turn to put my basic 4wd driving skills to the test. Wow!!! It was actually tough going in parts but gosh it was fun. Most of it was very rocky with a few water logged patches, but nothing I couldn’t handle 🙃. Rene only hung on to what he called the “Oh my goolley bar” a few times 🤣. We seen several emus along the way plus a dad with his 8 chicks which was pretty amazing to watch. Eventually (about an hour and a half) we finally arrived at Memory Cove. What a beautiful spot this is too. Here you are able to camp up for a few nights if you have a tent or camper trailer (couldn’t get our caravan in though). We had lunch while watching the ocean and chatting about our driving experience on the way here realising just how damn lucky we are to be able to experience all parts of this incredible National park. Sometimes you just have to be a little adventurous to really appreciate the beauty of the unknown.
Then on the way back we stopped in at every possible lookout and coastal view we could find just to admire more of the rugged coastline. We were just blown away by its beauty. We also seen more emus in a day than ever before. And we just loved seeing all the dads with their chicks. We seen several along the way back and they had anywhere between 4 and a dozen chicks. Always a good photo opportunity 🤷🏻‍♀️.
Before we headed back, we drove up to the Cape Donington lighthouse which was another interesting spot to explore.

Saturday was a day to stock up on supplies, check out a few more things we missed and treat ourselves to another pub lunch. We thought we would have lunch at the Hotel Boston. We didn’t realise that we would see some of the finishing runners for the 60km part of the Great White Ultra marathon that was taking place in Port Lincoln. The runners that were doing the 100km race were not due in for some time yet but we were glad we got to witness part of this marathon. The 100km was either done by solo runners or a 4 person relay team. There was also a 22km trail run and a 5km family friendly run.
We enjoyed a b**r and a w**e accompanied by an amazing seafood pizza. We were grateful it wasn’t a huge pizza too.
We thought we’d have a little fun and head down to ‘Snook’s Landing’. We kinda thought Snooks/Snogging had a similar meaning 🤣😜…….
Finally, before we headed back home, we thought it was time to give Dora a bit of a wash. So we took her through the car wash and got rid of a bit of the dirt and mud before heading home to relax for the night.
So after a fabulous 5 nights in Port Lincoln exploring everything it has to offer (yeah I’m sure we missed a few things too), tomorrow we head off to our next destination which is not too far away. But we do plan to come back for a day trip or two.
I make no apologies on the amount of photos this time. I had so much trouble culling them as it was 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️🤣. So many amazing photo opportunities that I just love to share. Hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. Until next time…..

Thursday was another adventurous day in Port Lincoln.
First up was something that desperately needing to be done and that was a haircut!!! Yep, 15 weeks between haircuts for me is just a tad bit too long and getting out of control🤦🏻‍♀️. I found an amazing hairdresser, RT (that is her name) at Indalo Hair. And I don’t mind giving them a plug! She did an amazing job, so thank you RT 🫶.
Then it was time for a cuppa before we went to The Old Mill. Now, one thing about me is I am not really good anymore on heights (not sue why), but I coped really well considering you could see the ground through the staircase. But the view was all worth it.
Then off to one of the best museums we’ve been to (and I don’t say that too lightly). The Axel Stenross Maritime Museum. Oh WOW!!! This has the whole history of the boat making industry from 2 amazing sailors from Finland, Axel Stenross and Frank Laakso. I could give you a history lesson with these two amazing builders and all they did for the industry and town, but I will let the photos do this instead. There was so much to see in this museum that it was hard not to take numerous photos (again 🤦🏻‍♀️). Will try to not share too many lol (famous last words). But I did turn quite a few into collages.
Then it was off to get one of the most incredible 360 degree views up on Winters Hill lookout. There is a separate video I took to give you a taste of what we witnessed up there. Truly spectacular and that view was to die for.
On our way back to town, we enjoyed a drive through some beautiful farming estates.
We were nearly finished for the day when I made a rash suggestion. Seems we missed out on staying at the Wheatsheaf Hotel in North Shields, I thought we owed it to ourselves (and the hotel) to go and have a b**r and w**e there to finish off our day. We got a friendly welcome by the owners Peter and Gail and enjoyed a drink and a great chat with Gail before heading back. The hotel was first licensed back in 1868 and the atmosphere has such a warm and charming feel about it. From the amazing murals to the quirky b**r can planes and the well maintained bar, this is truly a place to relax and enjoy a b**r or w**e.
We weren’t sure on what to have for dinner tonight, but Rene came up with a great solution. We headed off to the Fresh Fish Place, Oysters & Seafood and picked up a dozen large oysters and some huge tiger prawns.
After we had a relaxing afternoon where we had a cuppa before we went for a walk out on the Caravan Park Squid Jetty, we settled in for the night. And dinner…… well…… what can I say! The oysters 🦪 were huge and delicious and so too were the prawns 🦐. And that, accompanied by a w**e was the perfect way to finish off another amazing day.

Gidday everyone, I was planning on posting two days at once but I have too many photos for that. So enjoy a day at a time over the next few posts.

Wednesday we had a bit of a driving exploration day. We headed down to the marina to check out the amazing fishing boats that were just jaw dropping and the huge homes that had some incredible views. We pulled up at the Billy Light’s Point and went for a bit of a walk along the coastal trail where you can view the Boston Island and National park. We managed to see a couple of dolphins swimming by too which is always enjoyable to watch. Then it was off to find a coffee after we checked out more of the marina. We ended up back in town at the Boston Bay Diner which is a great spot for a bite to eat and a coffee with really lovely staff. We then went for a walk along the foreshore walk and read all the memorial plaques that represented the historical side of the ships that chartered the coastlines of the Eyre Peninsula and in particular, Port Lincoln. So lots to read in the photos.
There is also a replica statue of the triple Melbourne cup winner from 2003 to 2005.
So another great day exploring and taking in all what Port Lincoln has to offer.

Gidday folks. Just a bit of an update.
Wow what a difference a night makes! We were keeping an eye on the forecast and in Moonlight Bay they were predicting between 20-40mm of rain!! WOWZA!!! We were also told that you don’t want to be at the campground in bad weather! We would have loved to have stayed a few more days here but, not to be. Well… it all started at 2.30am yesterday (Monday), where we had a constant drizzle of rain. When we woke up our surrounds were starting to get a bit of a concern. So it was a quick coffee and pack up. We needed to head off before the road got too muddy and slippery. All good, Rene had it all under control. The caravan and car got a bit of a mud makeover on the way out though 🤣. Once we got on the highway though, Rene made sure he went through as many puddles as possible to clean it off 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤦🏻‍♀️.
We planned to spend a night at the pub stay behind the Wheatsheaf Hotel in North Shields. We pulled up to find they were closed on Mondays! Damn! Managed to speak to the owner who said we couldn’t even stay behind the hotel due to the rain (he didn’t want to have pull us out if we got bogged)! Double Bu**er! Like they say, sometimes plans need to change. So we rang the caravan park in Port Lincoln that we were staying at from tomorrow and they said to come on in… Phew 😅. So glad they allowed us to arrive early too and it was only 10am. We set up… in the rain and did not venture out for the rest of the day. Mind you I had to do a load of washing as we were drenched, they had to be washed! Apparently Port Lincoln received about 60mm + of rain in total!
We are set up at Port Lincoln Tourist Park for 6 nights. This park is really well set out. Most of the sites have water views which is great.
Tuesday (today) was a quiet day just to get our bearings. We went into town to the information centre and spoke to the lovely Penny who was a wealth of knowledge and very helpful. We really don’t know what we want to see or do here. All we know is that we want to explore and experience what Port Lincoln has to offer. There will be a trip down through the national park and walks around the town etc. So, if you are a local or have stayed here recently and can give us some ‘must see and do’s’, then throw them at us please. We are here for another 4 nights so plenty to of time to explore. We had a bit of a walk around, taking a few photos. Loved the 3 huge Moreton Bay Fig trees that apparently are the remnants of trees planted as far back as around 1870! They are truly stunning. We walked along the boardwalk admiring the Boston Bay and the huge Viterra grain silos. These silos are massive!!! I’m sure there will be some interesting history relating to these that we will discover.

Today was another day of pure magic here in Moonlight Bay. It started with a lovely sunrise over the calm waters of the Spencer Gulf. After breakfast we headed off for an amazing walk along Moonlight Beach all the way around to Peake Point. This is where we got a great view of the Bay and captured its beauty with some photos as well as of the rocks with their incredible formations and colours.
So much to admire along the beach including lots of shells that had washed up overnight and a few crab shells and their claws.
We headed back and while Rene headed up to the van to relax, I just had to write another message in the sand 🤷🏻‍♀️. It was then time for a cuppa as it was definitely needed after that amazing 5km walk.
Hope you enjoy the photos of our walk and our last day in paradise 🌊. Moonlight Bay is definitely one of those hidden treasures that you have to see to believe and stay for a while to enjoy and soak it all in. From sunrises to sunsets, the waves gently rolling in and listening to the birdlife and the wind, life can’t get much better than this.
We pack up and head off in the morning as we need to try and beat the rain thats heading our way. We would stay longer if they were not predicting between 20-40mm in one day!!! And from what we have been told, this campground and road in is not great in wet weather!
