Solid session and working bee at the Andamooka Airport yesterday! 🛠️ ​It was a productive morning getting stuck into the Native Project garden beds and checking over the irrigation. We also completed FOD walks and perimeter sweep to ensure the airstrip stays safe and operational for all our incoming flights.

Great meeting Dave from RFDS Engineering today! 🚑 ​He made the trek up from Adelaide in an Outback Ambulance to do a vehicle swap, and did a site visit at the Andamooka Airport. It’s always fantastic to catch up with the team behind the Royal Flying Doctor Service and see the work that goes into keeping our regional infrastructure and fleet ready for anything. ​Safe travels on the road back, Dave!

Two RFDS aircraft landed at the Andamooka Airport YAMK today! We saw the RFDS SA/NT Cessna 208B Grand Caravan touch down twice, transfering personnel to the Andamooka Clinic. Having the "Flying Doctor" visit twice in one day really highlights the critical role our airport plays in supporting essential medical services.

Happy World Pilots' Day! 🧑‍✈️

Today we celebrate the immense dedication, precision and professionalism of the dozens of pilots working across our SA/NT bases.

Pilots at the RFDS go far beyond operating the aircraft. They're a vital part of the care team – planning complex routes into remote airstrips and working side-by-side with doctors, nurses and operational teams to ensure every mission is safe and efficient.

🙏 Thank you to all our pilots for ensuring distance is never a barrier to care.

Volunteer Opportunity: Andamooka CFS & SES Backup Crew. ​The Andamooka Country Fire Service (CFS) is recruiting backup crew members to ensure sufficient personnel are available to respond to incidents when regular members are at capacity.

​Andamooka CFS Backup Crew
​This role provides a pathway for community members to assist with a flexible time commitment.

​Training: Completion of a one-off Basic Firefighting course held over a single weekend.

​Ongoing Commitment: Periodic familiarisation sessions approximately every six months, or more frequently if preferred.

​Equipment & Dispatch: Uniforms are stored at the station, and members are integrated into the BART phone alert system for incident notifications.

​Available Roles

​Positions are available based on individual qualifications and physical capacity:

​Fireground Operations: Requires individuals to be over 18, pass a police clearance, and possess the physical ability to manage a fire hose.

​Technical & Logistics: Andamooka CFS is seeking pump operators, Comms Officers, and Heavy Vehicle licensed drivers.

​Operational Support: Non-active roles are available for those who wish to contribute to emergency efforts away from the fireground.

​SES Requirements

​The Andamooka State Emergency Service (SES) has a similar need for volunteers. Basic training is available for those interested in supporting SES operations.
