Alice Springs Airport Welcomes Royal Australian Navy Delegation Ahead of ANZAC Day
Airport Development Group, owner of Alice Springs Airport was proud to play host to a special arrival today, welcoming a delegation from the Royal Australian Navy ahead of ANZAC Day commemorations in Central Australia.

A contingent of six personnel from HMAS Arunta arrived in Alice Springs where they were formally welcomed to Country by Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation.

The visit highlights the longstanding relationship between HMAS Arunta and Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation, with Corporation members having participated in ship visits over many years. The delegation’s return to Alice Springs, the first recorded visit since 2004 represents a meaningful reconnection between community and service.

During their stay, the Navy personnel will engage with local leaders, including the mayor Asta Hill, connect with NORFORCE representatives, and participate in community activities in the lead-up to ANZAC Day.

Airport Development Group is honoured that Alice Springs Airport could provide the setting for this important welcome ceremony, recognising the enduring bonds between Defence, community, and Country.

Moments like this reflect the role regional airports play, not only as transport gateways, but as places where community, history and national service come together.

We thank all partners involved in making this moment possible and extend a warm Central Australian welcome to the visiting personnel.

Alice Springs Airport joins national Airport Safety Week 2025 with a focus on teamwork and safety awareness

This week, Alice Springs Airport joined airports across Australia and New Zealand in celebrating Airport Safety Week 2025, a key industry initiative promoting safety awareness and best practices across all areas of airport operations.

As part of the national campaign, we were pleased to welcome Alice Springs Town Council CEO, Andrew Wilsmore, who joined Airport Manager, Tony Schulz, and the team for the annual Foreign Object Debris (FOD) Walk.

The FOD Walk highlights the importance of keeping runways and aprons clear of debris, even the smallest object can pose a serious risk to aircraft and passengers. It’s a simple but powerful reminder that safety is everyone’s responsibility.

“It was a privilege to join the team and witness their strong safety culture in action,” said Mr Wilsmore. “Activities like the FOD Walk not only protect aircraft and passengers but also strengthen our shared commitment to safe and secure operations for the region.”

Mr Schulz added that Airport Safety Week is an opportunity to reinforce teamwork and vigilance across the airport community. “Safety is at the heart of everything we do,” he said. “Maintaining a clean and hazard-free environment requires everyone’s involvement, from airport staff to airlines, tenants, and community partners.”

Airport Safety Week is held each October as part of National Safe Work Month, with airports across the region taking part in activities that celebrate and strengthen our shared culture of safety.
