Unfortunately, due to continuing strong winds and heavy seas today, Monday 1 June, all remaining sailings will not be operating.

Weather conditions for tomorrow, Tuesday 2 June, continue to forecast severe weather with gale force winds and heavy seas.

We will continue to monitor conditions overnight with a further update at approximately 6.00am tomorrow.

Please call our Sales Centre on 13 13 01 for assistance. The Sales Centre is open today until 6.00pm and will re-open tomorrow at 6.00am.

Unfortunately, due to the severe weather warning and damaging winds forecast for today, Monday 1 June, the following sailings will not operate:

- Departing Penneshaw at 8.30am, 10.30am, 11.30am and 1.30pm
- Departing Cape Jervis at 9.00am, 10.00am, 12.00pm and 1.00pm

We will continue to monitor conditions with the next update issued at approximately 12.30pm today.

We’re providing an update on the timing and transition to the new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service.

The first of the two new custom-built ferries, Wanggami recently arrived in Port Adelaide and is undertaking final commissioning activities, crew training and operational preparations ahead of entering service.

Construction of the second vessel, Ruwi, is progressing well and will soon begin final commissioning, harbour and sea trials. Her delivery is now expected by August 2026.

As soon as Ruwi has departed for Australia we will be able to confirm the dates for both the Temporary service shutdown and the new commencement date for the Kangaroo Island Ferry Service.

We anticipate that the new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service will commence on or before 23 September 2026. The temporary service shutdown is expected to occur over an anticipated three-day period in August or September 2026.

The new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service reinforces our long-term commitment to improve capacity, reliability and the overall customer experience for residents, freight operators and visitors travelling to and from Kangaroo Island.

We look forward to providing opportunities for the community and stakeholders to view Wanggami and will soon provide information relating to community day activities to be held at Cape Jervis.

While preparations continue for the introduction of the new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service, the following changes will occur to the ferry timetable for travel after 1 June 2026.

Ferry services from 1 June 2026 will operate to the current departure schedule with our existing ferries Sealion 2000 and Spirit of Kangaroo Island as we continue to work with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport regarding service commencement.

Our Sales Centre team will make contact with you regarding any existing bookings and thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work through these changes.

Important Information: Information on planned maintenance days in May 2026

As necessary each year, we schedule time during the quieter months to perform essential maintenance to each of our vessels.

We would like to inform you that planned maintenance will be carried out on both Sealion 2000 and Spirit of Kangaroo Island vessels on selected weekends in May 2026.

During this time, the maintenance works have been scheduled across specific weekends to minimise disruption to services.

- Saturday 16 May and Sunday 17 May - Sealion 2000 will be removed from service
- Saturday 23 May and Sunday 24 May - Spirit of Kangaroo Island will be removed from service
- Saturday 30 May and Sunday 31 May - Spirit of Kangaroo Island will be removed from service

On these dates, the alternate vessel will operate on the normal schedule.

All affected customers will be contacted and transferred to alternative sailings accordingly.

Ensure you book early to secure your preferred departure times. We thank you for your patience and support during this important time.
