One of the latest success stories is Kingscote Football Club product Cain Florance, whose football journey has taken him from the KANGAROO ISLAND FOOTBALL LEAGUE to the South Adelaide Football Club talent pathway, and now to the doorstep of the AFL after being invited to the State Combine.

Cain has also been part of the SANFL state pathway program and was recently named in the SA U18 leadership group.

We're proud to support both the KI Football League and South Adelaide Football Club, helping create opportunities for young regional footballers to pursue their dreams.

A huge congratulations to all the winners and everyone who took part in the Kangaroo Island Marathon 2026! 🏃‍♀️🏅

We were proud to be able to provide continued sponsorship and support and to be part of another great event on Kangaroo Island.

It was also wonderful to be out on the course cheering on participants and playing our part at the aid station, helping runners stay refreshed and encouraged along the way.

Well done to everyone who ran, volunteered, supported or helped bring the event together. It was fantastic to see so many people getting behind the festival and enjoying a great day on KI.

An important update on the transition timeline to the new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service.

Ruwi’s (the second new Kangaroo Island ferry) sea trials are underway and are progressing well. However, the shipbuilder has advised that due to an incident during harbour commissioning, there will be a delay to the delivery of Ruwi and her arrival in Port Adelaide is now anticipated in late September 2026.

Unfortunately, this means we must postpone the temporary 3-day shutdown that was to commence from 1 September. The service shutdown is now planned to occur from Tuesday 20 October – Thursday 22 October 2026 (inclusive), with both new vessels anticipated to start on the new timetable in November 2026.

Our number one priority is to ensure that the Kangaroo Island community continues to have access to a safe and reliable ferry service, which is why postponing the ramp installation shutdown until both new vessels are here is absolutely critical, especially during the upcoming peak school holiday travel period and livestock season.

We understand this delay is extremely disappointing for everyone, and we share that disappointment, but service continuity must remain the priority.
We are contacting affected customers with existing bookings, in order of departure date, to re-book them on the next available service. Any changes to existing bookings will be made without charge and are subject to availability.

Please call our Sales Centre on 13 13 01 for assistance. The Sales Centre is open today until 5:00pm.

We apologise for any inconvenience this further delay will cause. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Today we marked an exciting milestone for the future of the Kangaroo Island ferry service with the official christening of Wanggami, the first of our two new ferries.

The celebration commenced with a moving Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by respected Elders Susan Dixon (Kaurna Country) and Mark Koolmatrie (Ngarrindjeri Country), followed by speeches from Kelsian Group Chair Fiona Hele, and Member for Mawson Jenni Mitton MP. Father David Still, of St Paul’s Port Adelaide, then blessed the vessel before Fiona officially christened Wanggami.

Following the official proceedings, guests were invited to join an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the vessel.

Thank you to the more than 100 guests who joined us to mark the occasion, including representatives from the South Australian Government, the South Australian Tourism Commission, Kangaroo Island community leaders, tourism partners, stakeholders and media.

With a drive-through design on the vehicle deck allowing easier and safer vehicle loading, increased capacity, more daily departures, improved accessibility and modern passenger lounges for a more comfortable journey, Wanggami represents an exciting new chapter for SeaLink and the future of ferry travel to Kangaroo Island.

We look forward to welcoming passengers on board Wanggami!

📣 We would like to share an important update about the temporary service shutdown required to transition to the new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service.

The temporary shutdown is expected to occur from Tuesday 1 September to Thursday 3 September 2026, inclusive, to complete final critical infrastructure works, including the installation of new vehicle ramps at Cape Jervis and Penneshaw.

The last service before the temporary shutdown will depart Cape Jervis at 6.00 pm on Monday 31 August 2026.

Services are expected to resume on Friday 4 September 2026 on a limited departure schedule with Sealion 2000 only, for an anticipated 3 – 4 days.

Affected customers, including freight customers, with existing bookings from Tuesday 1 September until the existing departure schedule resumes will be contacted and rebooked on the next available service. Changes will be without charge and subject to availability.

During the shutdown, the Cape Jervis and Penneshaw terminal precincts will be closed to all access, except authorised personnel.

The Cape Jervis boat ramp will also be closed from Monday 24 August to Friday 11 September 2026, inclusive. Alternate boat launching facilities will be available at Wirrina Cove.

The shutdown and associated works are weather dependent. The new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service is anticipated to commence on or before 23 September 2026.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
