Carnival at Berger Logistik: a tradition that keeps on giving 👇🏼

Carnival season brings a special tradition at Berger Logistik — one that has been cherished for years.

Every year, all employees receive a fresh Austrian “Krapfen” (closest translation would be “doughnut”), a nod to regional customs and a gesture of appreciation for the team’s dedication.

This tradition of course is not just about the “Krapfen”: it’s about celebrating together, valuing each other, and keeping a piece of local heritage alive. And when the local Kindergarten joins you as nice surprise, you know you've done the right thing 😉.

► Starting into 2025 with big news: the opening of our office in Germany

To say that we are excited would be an understatement: it is official - we have opened a new branch office in Hamburg — a key milestone in our journey of growth and promise to offer excellent service delivery to our clients.

As Germany’s maritime hub, Hamburg offers unmatched proximity to ports, terminals, and leading shipping lines. With a significant portion of our import and export operations already handled here, the move strengthens our foothold in FMCG, beverages, and industrial goods sectors. It also taps into the region's robust talent pool and leverages our strong intermodal connections across northern Germany.

This site will house our Customs Brokerage, Sales Leadership and Seafreight Tradelane experts - hello team Hamburg (from left to right): Mario Griephan, Finja Bösch, Luise Samsinger und Dominik Gehrmann.

► Two wonderful organisations, one goal: making a difference👇🏻

Giving back is a core part of our company philosophy and we are proud to continue our support of two truly incredible organisations, the "Landessonderschule Mariatal" and the "Schritt für Schritt" initiative, which Katharina and Manuel have visited last week.

We are always amazed about the dedication of both organisations to make a difference and change. The "Landessonderschule Mariatal" focuses on tailored educational opportunities for students with special needs, while “Schritt für Schritt” provides vital support to children and young people facing unique challenges.

We are honoured to contribute our part to their invaluable work and aim to make an impact that lasts far beyond the holiday season.

Thank you to everyone involved for helping us keep this tradition alive.

➡️ Driving conversations on logistics' future: A visit by Wörgl’s Mayor Michael Riedhart and Federal Minister Norbert Totschnig, accompanied by Gerhard Berger, ignited discussions on trends like AI, sustainability, and digitalization

➡️ Building our global presence: Executing operational excellence with our US team at Berger Logistics at various Formula 1 Grand Prix logistics and expanding our sea freight division have been pivotal in strengthening our global presence

➡️ Advancing transparency: The adoption of our ZeKju tracking tool elevated charter transport transparency, offering real-time updates and paperless workflows that redefine efficiency

➡️ Sustainable practices in action: With our photovoltaic system, we’ve already saved over 57,000 kg of CO₂ in 2024 - equivalent to planting 1,712 trees. Meanwhile, our fleet running on HVO Diesel, reduced CO₂ emissions by up to 90%

➡️ Shaping future talent: Welcoming students from HAK Wörgl’s digital branch and the students from Uni Innsbruck's Bafit network highlighted the power of knowledge-sharing. Our team offered insights into logistics, digitalization, and sustainability. To exchange thoughts with the next generation of logistics professionals was a truly inspiring experience for us

► We are proud: Berger Logistik receives the 'Ausgezeichneter Tiroler Lehrbetrieb 2024' (award as Tyrolean training company 2024)

Caring about future talents in the logistics sector is extremely important for us. This is why we feel very pleased to have been honored with the "Ausgezeichneter Tiroler Lehrbetrieb 2024" award, a prestigious distinction that highlights outstanding apprenticeship training in Tyrol. The award was received by our apprenticeship representative Eren Ünal and awarded by County Council Mario Ge**er and Chamber of Commerce Vice President Martin Wetscher. This recognition, granted by the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Labor, is reserved for companies that meet rigorous standards, including exemplary training quality, excellent resources, and innovative development opportunities for apprentices.

► How global trade uncertainty and geopolitics are reshaping supply chains (and what’s next for logistics)

Trade wars, tariffs, and political shifts—global supply chains are increasingly caught in the crossfire. Recent changes in trade policies, paired with geopolitical tensions, are creating ripple effects that demand from logistics providers to navigate them with the need for precision and expertise.

Fluctuating tariffs between major economies don’t just influence costs; they redefine optimal routes, sourcing strategies, and inventory planning. Political instability adds another layer of complexity, often creating unforeseen bottlenecks and delays. The ability to anticipate and respond to these challenges has never been more critical. This is why we put transparency in the form of realtime tracking on the Berger Logistik strategic radar a long time ago, so our clients stay informed on where exactly their goods are located.

“Adaptability” isn’t just a buzzword any more — in our view it’s the backbone of resilience. From realigning routes to bypass disruptions, to leveraging free trade zones, to maintaining diversified supplier bases, proactive strategies are the key to keeping goods moving for companies of any industry or size. Technology also plays a pivotal role, offering predictive insights to mitigate risks and optimize decision-making.

► Inspiring the next generation: a visit from HAK Wörgl’s digital branch

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting 34 students from the first class of HAK HAS Wörgl 's digital branch, along with their class teacher Tamara Rollmann. The visit was all about exploring the logistics industry's inner workings, with a special focus on digitalization, supply chain management, and sustainability.

Our team was excited to share insights:
- Stefan Gasser, Global Pricing Manager, gave an overview of the logistics industry and our company
- Michael Messner, our Supply Chain Manager, dived into supply chain topics
- Johanna Trappl, head of our Data Team, brought digitalization to life

while Katharina and Manuel moderated the meet-up.

The energy and curiosity of all these young minds were really inspiring for us. This is an example, where shaping the tomorrow of logistics comes to life for us.

► The post-pandemic area: navigating the “new normal” in the logistics sector

Navigating a shifting landscape, the logistics industry is steering towards a new normal. Post-pandemic, the frantic rush for companies to secure any available carrier has given way to a more measured approach. Over the past months, with stabilizing capacity, logistics service providers are experiencing an industry ripe for strategic choices, focusing on quality over quantity. We have certainly put several strategic pillars into the ground ourselves over the last months, predominantly in the area of operational excellence, digitalisation and sustainability.

This normalization is reshaping logistics operations against a backdrop of economic recalibration globally. As the market adjusts, the agility to adapt to fluctuating demands and maintain operational efficiency remains paramount for any service provider. The landscape is less about survival like it was during the pandemic times and more about strategic foresight, as evident from the easing of carrier market entries and the strategic absorption of smaller fleets by larger entities.

The road ahead for logistics is punctuated by an increasing focus on robust, quality-driven partnerships that promise not just to navigate but to innovate in the face of ongoing changes. This is why we hold the strong belief in rethinking our clients’ supply chain vs. “just providing carrier services”. The journey continues through an increasingly complex market with a keen eye on these evolving dynamics, ensuring every move counts towards a more stable, sustainable and efficient future. As we navigate these changes, the importance of a responsive and adaptive strategy becomes clear — essential in ensuring that logistics not only meets but anticipates the needs of a transforming world.

► Gemeinsam für eine bessere Zukunft: wir packen mit an (und ein) für das Dorf Ntronang in Ghana 🇬🇭

Wir freuen uns sehr, das wohltätige Projekt "Grenzenlos-Helfen", das von Elisabeth Cerwenka ins Leben gerufen wurde, tatkräftig zu unterstützen. Seit 20 Jahren engagiert sie sich unermüdlich für das Dorf Ntronang in Ghana und hat bereits zahlreiche Projekte vor Ort realisiert. Dieses Jahr, zum Jubiläum, setzt sie auch auf unsere Unterstützung: Wir spenden IT-Equipment, das in mehreren Schulen vor Ort dringend gebraucht wird und sorgen dafür, dass die Geräte fachgerecht verpackt werden, damit sie unbeschadet ankommen.

Wir sind stolz darauf, Teil dieser Initiative zu sein, die Bildungschancen und nachhaltige Strukturen fördert, die die Lebensumstände der Menschen in Ntronang etwas verbessern. Am 30. November wird hier in Wörgl auch ein Jubiläums-Benefizkonzert stattfinden, dessen Erlöse direkt nach Ntronang fließen.

Frau Cerwenka war vor Kurzem bei uns zu Gast und hat eindrucksvoll von ihren Erlebnissen und der Bedeutung des Projekts erzählt. Es ist eine Partnerschaft, die für uns weit über das Thema Logistik hinausgeht.
