I recently took this regional train in Wiesbaden Germany to try it out because it's powered in such a unique way that it's one of the only ones like it in the world. Can you guess how it's powered?
Hints: it's not diesel, or hydro-powered and there are no electric power lines.

Watching the Tram-WM World Tramdriver Championship was such a blast yesterday!

It is basically the World Olympics for tram drivers -- for the first time ever there were teams from all over the world competing against teams from Europe including Hong Kong, Australia, Africa & even the USA! (San Diego)

This is the moment Team Vienna won & the crowds went wild! 🎉

Yesterday I spent all day at the Tram-WM World Tramdriver Championship in Vienna and it was such an awesome event!
It was so cool to see tram drivers competing for the first time from all over the world including Brazil, Hong Kong, Australia, Africa & the USA

I have family from Vienna so watching Austria take the world championship was super exciting!

But a personal highlight for me was watching an incredible comeback from team Germany in the second half when Thomas Langkopf from Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe ran an amazingly precise course awarding him the title of World Champion Tram Driver! I'm a student in Leipzig who rides the tram there every day and I can vouch for their impressive skills.

This was a maneuver by him I caught on video where the driver has to stop precisely in the middle for maximum points only relying on their team mate's whistle to help guide them where to stop.

I really enjoyed a recent trip to the Czech Republic where I was able to ride around on some trains, buses & funiculars for a week.
Look at how nice the interior of this České Dráhy Intercity is! They even had an area for kids to sit and watch cartoons.

Really fascinating seeing these train tracks at the former East German interior border. Hard to believe that less than 40 years ago standing in this spot could have gotten me killed!

EuroTransit Tip of the week!
I just got back from traveling around Poland and discovered that some transit systems (like the KMK in Krakow) have separate tram/bus tickets than the local train operators in the same fare zones-- so choose carefully when selecting the ticket you need.
But also, how cool is this tram?

European rail companies announce their new schedules not on Jan 1st, but rather the 2nd Sunday of December every year, which is good to be aware of if traveling over the holidays!

Here are some of the big changes in 2025:

* New direct ICE highspeed train between Berlin & Paris
* New direct ICE highspeed train between Munich & Amsterdam
* Three new daily trains added to the Eurostar schedule between Brussels & Paris
* a daily AVE highspeed train between Barcelona & Toulouse (summer only)
* Four new daily Euro City trains from Prague to Gdansk & Gdynia in Poland
* A new night train from Budapest to Kiev
