Major Relief for Those Stuck Due to Travel Disruptions; UAE Announces 30-Day Extra Grace Period!
Dubai: The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) has announced an additional 30-day grace period for individuals who have been unable to leave the UAE on time due to disruptions in flight services.

This provides a rare opportunity for those who unexpectedly found themselves in an illegal residency status to adjust their status or leave the country without facing fines or legal action.

🗓️ Applicable Period:
This benefit will be available from June 10, 2026, to July 9, 2026. Authorities have clarified that eligible individuals do not need to submit special applications or undergo additional procedures to avail of this relief.

📌 Key Benefits:
💼 Adjust Residency Status: Those wishing to remain in the UAE can legalize their visa or residency status and complete the necessary procedures to work.

✈️ Exit the Country Without Fines: Those wishing to return to their home countries can complete their travel procedures and depart without paying any overstay fines.

👥 Who is Eligible for This Relief?
This waiver primarily applies to the following categories of people affected by airspace restrictions and flight suspensions since February 28, 2026:

🔹 Visa holders whose visas expired but they could not travel.

🔹 Individuals holding a departure permit.

🔹 Residents whose visas were cancelled but had to remain in the country due to disrupted flight services.

This compassionate decision by the UAE government brings immense relief to many expatriates facing difficulties due to travel disruptions.

Heavy Fines for Failure to Renew UAE Unemployment Insurance: Ministry Warning
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced that UAE employees, both citizens and residents, must renew their mandatory Unemployment Insurance (ILOE) policies on time. Since the majority of individuals enrolled in the insurance scheme—which became mandatory three years ago—did so in the month of June, the renewal deadline is currently approaching. A fine of 200 AED will be imposed on those who do not renew their policy on time, while a fine of 400 AED will be charged to those who have not yet enrolled in the insurance. This fine amount will subsequently be deducted from the employees’ salaries or other benefits. Furthermore, failure to renew the policy will prevent individuals from obtaining new work permits in the country.

Since the program launched in January 2023, 90% of eligible individuals have already enrolled. The scheme, which helps employees navigate financial crises if they lose their jobs, has distributed 350 million AED in benefits so far. If an employee who has completed 12 months of insurance coverage loses their job, they will receive 60% of their basic salary as financial aid for three months. Providing high security at a low premium, this scheme gives employees great confidence amidst uncertainties in the job market.

Mid-Day Break Rule Effective June 15; Heavy Fines for Violators
Ban on work in open areas from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM

ABU DHABI: To ensure the safety of workers during the intense summer heat, the UAE will reimplement the mid-day break rule starting June 15. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced that workers must not be required to work in open areas or under direct sunlight between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM. This restriction will remain in effect for three months, until September 15. The measure is intended to protect workers from heat-related health issues and accidents. This is the 22nd consecutive year that the UAE is implementing this regulation.

Exemptions
Certain essential jobs are exempt from this rule. These include emergency tasks that cannot be stopped, such as road paving, concrete pouring, repairing water and electricity disruptions, and restoring transport services. Work that must continue to avoid public inconvenience may also proceed with official government permission.

Fines and Compliance
Companies that violate the rule face heavy fines. A fine of 5,000 AED will be imposed for each worker found working during the prohibited hours. If multiple workers are involved, the total fine can reach up to 50,000 AED. The Ministry noted that 99 percent of companies complied with the law during inspections last year. Furthermore, more than 10,000 air-conditioned rest stations have been set up across the country for delivery personnel.

Hijri New Year Holiday Announced; June 15 to be a Day of Rest for Public and Private Sectors
Monday to be an official holiday; many will get three to four consecutive days off.

Dubai: An official holiday has been announced for federal government institutions and private sector companies in the UAE on Monday, June 15, 2026, in observance of the 1448 Hijri New Year. The announcement was made jointly by the UAE Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).

This date was confirmed in accordance with the list of official holidays for 2026 approved by the UAE Cabinet. The first day of Muharram, the first month of the Hijri calendar, is observed as the Islamic New Year. Normal working hours will resume in government and private institutions across the country on Tuesday, June 16, following the holiday.

Since the holiday falls on a Monday, employees with a Saturday-Sunday weekend will get three consecutive days off. Meanwhile, Sharjah government employees and school students, who have a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday weekend, will enjoy a long four-day holiday, including the public holiday on Monday. This announcement follows closely after the longest Eid al-Adha holiday of the year in the UAE, during which government employees received nine consecutive days off and private sector employees received six.
