Returning Residents: Duty on Household Goods in Zimbabwe

🇿🇼 Returning to Zimbabwe permanently? You may qualify for duty-free import of your household goods.

Under the Immigrant’s Rebate administered by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, returning residents can import certain personal goods without paying Customs Duty or VAT.

Who qualifies?

You may qualify if you:

✔ Previously lived or worked in Zimbabwe
✔ Have been living outside Zimbabwe for at least 2 years
✔ Are returning to settle permanently or take up employment

What goods can be imported duty-free?

The rebate covers personal and household effects, including:

• Clothing and personal effects
• Household furniture
• Linen and household appliances
• Personal household items used abroad

These goods must have been owned and used by you while abroad and must be for personal use, not resale.

Important conditions

• Goods must belong to the returning resident
• Goods must be imported at the time of arrival or within an approved period
• Commercial goods are not eligible for rebate

📄 Proof of ownership of goods

2. Know Your Travellers’ Rebate
