"For The Love Of Trees" Tour Bird Encounters 🦜

South Africa's Garden Route is a bird enthusiast's paradise.
From casual bird viewing to specialized bird photography, our tour brings you up-close with iconic indigenous birds living in their natural habitat.

Here are four bird species you will encounter on our tour:

🟢 Knysna Turaco (Loerie) - Tauraco corythaix
Endemic to the ancient forests of the Garden Route, the Knysna Loerie boast brilliant colours & a loud call that echoes through the forest canopy. The Loerie is a frequent visitor at the Forest Cabins where you will be accommodated during our tour.

🟢 Verreaux's (Black) Eagle - Aquila verreauxii
This large eagle has a wingspan reaching up to 2m. Shy & silent, the predator is often spotted soaring the skies. Our tour takes you to a special place where a breeding pair has established high in the coastal cliffs.

🟢 Half Collared Kingfisher - Alcedo semitorquata
When you see a striking blue flash against a forest of green, be sure that you have discovered the Half Collared Kingfisher. This little bird primarily hunts from a perch, plunging into a stream of water to catch fish with its dagger-like bill.

🟢 African Black Oystercatcher - Haematopus moquini
Beautifully charcoal black shorebirds with crimson bill, eyes & legs. The efforts of the Oystercatcher Conservation Program have seen the population size of these near-threatened birds increase from 5,000 to 10,000 since 1980. The blue flag beaches en route our tour host small flocks & breeding pairs of these magnificent birds.

They are a symbol of that which remains steadfast in an ever-changing world.
