ETG’s Statement in response to the European Commission’s Proposal for amending the date of application of the Deforestation Regulation:

As part of ETG’s commitment to zero deforestation, we are fully aligned with the goals of Regulation (EU) 2023/115, also known as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

Our efforts to address the requirements set by EUDR span , and supply chains, where we work with hundreds of thousands of to implement sustainable farming practices. In close collaboration with farmers and farmer groups, we ensure that our sourcing areas are protected from and forest degradation.

We emphasize the importance of EUDR as a catalyst to meet the urgent need for deforestation-free supply chains. We believe it is crucial to maintain the regulation’s focus and substance without compromising its objectives. Therefore, we believe any reopening of the regulation itself or a further delay beyond the 30th of December 2025 should be avoided.

ETG’s goal is to continue addressing deforestation and its root causes beyond EU regulation, ensuring a sustainable and equitable future for all stakeholders.

ETG team celebrated by making 1000 breakfast cups to surrounding old age homes and care centers. With the support of our affiliated party Amrut Foundation ZA, we distributed these breakfast cups and remembered the inspiring legacy that Mr. Mandela left for not only South Africans, but people around the world.

ETG had the honour of hosting USAID at Zamfert, an ETG subsidiary, where they made a significant announcement to the Government of Zambia. USAID highlighted ETG’s role as input suppliers of fertilizers and the first link in the chain to improve food supply in Zambia and the region.
The distinguished guests included:

Isobel Coleman, USAID Deputy Administrator (Washington)
Monde Muyangwa, USAID Assistant Administrator Bureau for Africa
Reuben Phiri, Minister for Agriculture

Duncan Payne, commercial sales manager at Zamfert, took the delegation on a tour of our plant, showcasing our BIOCHAR processor. The focus was on sustainable agriculture and how Zamfert can provide products and agronomy support to boost food supply in Zambia, benefiting small-scale farmers. USAID has identified Zambia as a key country to accelerate food supply under the "Feed the Future" program.
Another critical discussion point was the Lobito Railway line from Angola to Zambia, essential for the movement of commodities and regional support.

ETG and Community Agribusiness Partners (CAP) are excited to share an update on our Virtuous Farming Project in Malawi, launched in November 2023. This initiative focuses on enhancing organic soybean supply while improving living standards through market linkages. Despite erratic rainfall impacting yields, our commitment remains strong.

From the 1,217 small-scale farmers planting organic soybeans, we harvested 150 metric tons—half the expected yield. While organic farming often yields less initially as soils recover, we are implementing lessons from this season to improve future outcomes. CAP is providing certified seeds, training lead farmers, and organizing learning visits to enhance farming practices.

ETG is dedicated to offering competitive prices and supporting soil fertility restoration through agroforestry. We are encouraging tree nurseries with varieties like Mango, Macadamia, and Neem.

Rebecca Chibwana, a Fumbati Cooperative member, shared: “It was my first-time growing soybeans organically. Unlike previous years, I spent less as my soybeans did not require chemical pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.”

We look forward to sharing more progress soon and wish our dedicated farmers success in their ongoing efforts.
