The SAA Technical Apprentice School recently attended the National Transport Conference, which took place from March 16 to 18 in Johannesburg. The conference, themed "Transport: The Driver for Growth, Job Creation, Inclusivity and Sustainability," brought together industry experts, policymakers, and innovators to discuss key issues affecting the transport sector.

The instructors from SAA Technical Apprentice School had a fantastic experience as well as appreciated the exceptional chance to engage with Presidant Cyril Ramaphosa and many great international and local speakers, including ministers, CEOs, and researchers, and to share ideas on best practices in transport management. Overall, the experience was enriching and informative, providing valuable insights to enhance their teaching and training approaches.

Most people think aircraft maintenance is simple.

Find the fault.
Fix the part.
Sign the logbook.
Aircraft flies.

But the reality is very different.

Behind every safe flight there are dozens of invisible factors working together.

• Technical knowledge to diagnose the real problem
• Careful inspections that catch small issues before they grow
• Documentation that protects safety and accountability
• Communication between technicians, engineers, and operations
• Experience built from years of solving complex situations
• Human factors awareness to prevent mistakes under pressure

Aircraft don't stay safe because one task was completed.

They stay safe because technicians respect every detail, every procedure, and every responsibility.

Passengers see the aircraft take off.

But the real story starts long before that — in the hangar, with the people who make safety their daily habit.

Respect the professionals who keep the skies safe.
