Coach 57 "Letsani" has arrived at Sandstone and, after some specialised "shunting" by the lowbed driver and our TLB driver, is now in position near the Waenhuis alongside our two dining cars. A full story on the coach, which is in amazing condition for a vehicle that is now 116 years old!,will be on our website soon.

Coach 57 op pad to Sandstone!

Sandstone recently purchased an interesting ex Dining Car from a private owner in Johannesburg. On May 31st the coach was lifted from behind the fence in Kew, where it has stood for nearly 40 years, for transport to Sandstone Estates near Ficksburg
Built in Pretoria in 1910 she was originally CSAR 20518, type CSAR 07, she became A-15 number 140 when the SAR was formed and named Letsani. In 1912 she was converted to a private saloon, number 52, for the System Manager in Pretoria, keeping the name Letsani. She was renumbered 57 as a new coach for the White Train took the original number 52 and served the SAR until July 1983.
It does, however, have a Royal connection as it was used in the Prince of Wales tour train of 1925.
