Bats are not “kadiri”

I bet these bats had planted more trees than you.
Hope this can educate you.

The Monfort Bat Sanctuary on Samal Island, Davao, Philippines, is home to the world’s largest single colony of Geoffrey’s rousette fruit bats (Rousettus amplexicaudatus), estimated at 2–2.5 million strong. They cling to the cave’s ceilings and walls—covering approximately 75–80% of the surface—according to Guinness World Records.

How to get there:
From Davao City, take a bus to the Sasa Wharf, then a ferry to Samal Island, and finally a habal‑habal or tricycle to Barangay Tambo—about 30–45 minutes total

Fee:
Regular - Php 120 (with environmental fee)

Tour includes an educational orientation plus a visit at the cave entrances.

Tayandak, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat – June 2023

Growing up, we used to visit Tayandak every time we traveled to see our uncle and his family. My most recent trip here was also the last vacation I had with my mother before she passed away.

Tayandak is one of the lesser-known yet breathtaking coastal destinations in the municipality of Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat, Mindanao. With its unspoiled beaches, turquoise waters, and rich marine life, it offers a quiet escape for travelers seeking raw, natural beauty.

Transportation Details

1. Getting to Poral Beach
From Kalamansig Proper: Ride a tricycle to Poral Beach. Tricycles are widely available in town.

Fare: Around ₱20–₱30 per person
Entrance Fee: There’s no fixed entrance fee, but charges apply if you rent a hut or cottage (₱300–₱700, depending on size and amenities).

Poral is a locally run beach area with simple accommodations and a relaxed atmosphere.

2. Walking to Tayandak
No Fee
Distance: Just a few hundred meters from Poral Beach.

Route Options:

Beach Walk: During low tide, you can stroll along the shoreline to reach Tayandak.
Scenic Hike: During high tide, there's a trail over a littered boulder path that leads you around the coast to the next beach.
