Advisory Notice to Passengers
I am sharing a personal and unfortunate experience from my recent flight to Osaka, Japan on 09 May 2026, in the hope that it may help raise awareness and prevent similar incidents for other travelers.
I was a passenger on Flight PR 412, operating an Airbus A330, and was seated in the exit row. In compliance with safety regulations, I placed my body bag in the overhead bin during the flight. Upon arrival in Osaka, while disembarking and momentarily distracted, I retrieved my bag and secured it by strapping it on top of my hand‑carried trolley luggage.
I proceeded directly to my booked hotel. Once in my room, I checked my body bag to retrieve my wallet and was shocked to discover that it was missing.
Shortly afterward, I received bank alerts confirming several unauthorized transactions, including purchases at an Apple Store in Shinsaibashisuji, multiple high‑value transactions at an LV (Louis Vuitton) store, and ATM card usage at a convenience store.
Unfortunately, all transactions were completed before I was able to block my cards.
This experience was deeply upsetting, especially as this trip was meant to be a meaningful celebration of Mother’s Day with my wife.
If This Happens to You in Japan:
↪️ Proceed immediately to the nearest police station or kōban (police box)
✅ Report the incident as loss or theft of property
✅ Bring your passport, flight details, and bank transaction notifications
✅ Request a police report reference number (受理番号 / Juri Bangō) for bank, insurance, or airline follow‑up.
I am sharing this experience not to cause alarm, but to gently remind fellow travelers to remain vigilant, even in destinations widely regarded as safe. Please keep valuables close, check your belongings regularly, and stay attentive during flights and transit.
I sincerely hope this advisory helps others take extra precautions and avoid a similar experience.
