Came for the peaks, stayed for the secret Garden!
Very impressed with this National park! Right from the moment the mountain range appeared on the horizon we began to feel excited about what the Grampians had on offer! For us, this hike was the pinnacle for our time here, the Grampians Peaks Trail!
We were also very impressed with the bustling hikers village vibe of Halls Gap.
Next time we visit, we would love to explore more 4x4 tracks and the hikes, especially to see the waterfalls. Due to the very dry conditions that caused the fires in these areas just after we left, very little water was around. We were lucky to see it at all before the park was evacuated.

The Darling River Run!
“You’re mad for going out there this time of year” was the most popular comment we received in the lead up to this trip!
We now think, ‘you’re mad not to go out there this time of year!’
Maybe we got lucky with the weather but the 40 degree days out here didn’t hurt as much as the hot humid weather we left behind in Brisbane.

Amazing region to explore and stoked to do it with great mates! and Cass were the best hosts and tour guides, while Kevin the entertainer kept us endlessly laughing!

We camped, swam and fished in three different locations along the Darling River, Tilpa, Kinchega National Park and Pamamaroo Lake. All stunning places in their own right.

We brought in the new year and a fresh haul of Yellow Belly Perch along with Yabbies and it was prepped for an epic feed in Broken Hill!

Long days out here this time of year with last light often watched from the swag at 9:30pm.
Very glad we got to experience this part of Australia with these amazing people! Couldn’t have done it without them!

First touring trip in the big girl! Before the trip we started adding a few permanent touches to improve the vehicle’s ability to travel this wild country. More on those later. We also added some temporary items to make life a bit more comfortable for trips until the full build is complete.
These temporary modifications included:
1) A timber platform for the air swag to live on and the remainder of the camping gear to store underneath. This saves us from having to roll up the swag each morning and keeps us off the ground helping everything stay much cleaner. Especially from the dusty dry conditions we are experiencing. When in transit the swag lays flat and the tonneau cover sits in its normal position above everything doing its best to keep the dust out and rain if we are to experience any.
2) A pvc pipe across the back of the cab painted black acts as our warm washing and showering water storage. This makes life on the road a bit cleaner. Every bit helps!
3) The big truck was missing a passengers makeup mirror so an old hilux mirror was disassembled and the glass installed on the passengers sun visor to keep looking her best as always!
4) Since the air swag isn’t getting rolled up everyday, battery operated fairly lights are strung along the inside of the swag roof acting as our evening lights. As we’re travelling on the longest days of the year we are yet to need any other camp lights.
After that, we threw our existing fridge in the back seat, loaded up the rest of our existing camp gear and set off to test the capabilities of the new rig with a very budget spec camping setup.
So far an absolutely amazing trip to some of Australia’s finest locations! These photos were camp spot number one of the adventure!
