When the busy Station Goes to Sleep

During the day, Sealdah is a massive sea of daily commuters sprinting for their local trains and Express boardings, but come midnight, the endless platform announcements finally fade away, and the station gets to rest. The chaotic crowds are replaced by our dedicated safai karamcharis (cleaning staff) working hard to wash down the concourse, while the giant locomotives and empty bogeys sit quietly in the yard. It feels incredibly peaceful and almost human seeing these freshly cleaned, empty platforms—a rare, quiet pause for our hardworking railway network to catch its breath before the morning siren signals another crazy day.

The Monsoon Mood at Sealdah:
There is something completely mesmerizing about the station when the rains hit. The familiar hustle slows down, the platforms glisten under the lights, and the resting coaches get a fresh monsoon wash. Just the rhythm of the heavy rain meeting the rumble of the tracks.

Bidhannagar Road Railway Station: Kolkata’s Vital Suburban Transit Hub
Formerly known as Ultadanga Road, Bidhannagar Road (BNXR) is a major Eastern Railway junction on the Sealdah–Ranaghat line that first opened in 1862.
The bustling station manages an immense daily footfall of nearly 975,000 passengers and around 325 trains, utilizing uniquely designed, extra-long island platforms.
Renamed in 1972 to coincide with Salt Lake City’s development, it serves as a critical gateway offering seamless multimodal connectivity to Kolkata’s metro and bus networks.
