Found mostly in forested areas, the Olive Bushshrike blends perfectly into its leafy surroundings, but its songs are what truly give it away.

With a wide repertoire of melodies, it’s like the songwriter of the bird world, serenading the forest with its versatile tunes.
Shy and often hidden, it’s a treasure to spot this bird darting between the trees or perched serenely amidst the foliage.

Meet the Secretary Bird – a bird with a name as unique as its looks!

Known as the "snake bird," this majestic creature is famous for stomping on snakes and other prey with its powerful legs. But don’t let the name fool you—it’s not picky and will happily dine on lizards, rodents, and insects too.

Strikingly tall and elegant, it struts across the open veld like it owns the place—because it does!

Despite spending most of its time walking the plains, the Secretary Bird nests high up in trees. Talk about versatility: part eagle, part terrestrial champion.
A proud member of the eagle family, this not-too-common bird combines predator prowess with undeniable style.

Its feathers resemble quills tucked behind its head, giving it the “secretary” look—more ready for a power meeting than a hunt!

Spotting one of these regal striders in the wild is a treat, whether it’s gracefully patrolling the grasslands or towering over the veld.

Truly a mix of poise and power, this bird is as rare as it is fascinating. Keep your binoculars ready; it’s a showstopper!

Widespread over South Africa and has a cousin in Zimbabwe not quite the same colouring. Looses all its Red in the non-breeding season which is the winter.

They are commonly found in wetlands, grasslands, and agricultural areas, where they feed on seeds and insects. These social birds are known for their intricate woven nests, typically built in reeds or grass near water.

The female and non breading males are a very plain brown.
