The MTA Breaks Ground on The Construction of The Shaft For The Second Avenue Phase 2 Boring Machine.

Janno Lieber, MTA: Before the tunnel boring machine gets here, before the dirt can start flying, what we're going to do is build a shaft where we can lower these 2 million and a half pound beasts, the tunnel boring machines, into position.

This is not your average Lego set, folks. We're talking about they’re 22 feet in length. They have, as the governor said, diamond-sudden drill heads. It's not just an extravagance, it's how you actually bore through rock and soil.

And not only do they bore, but right, they bring along with them the reinforcement of the tunnel. They literally erecting panels automatically as they go, so this is really 21st century construction.
