Found this gem at a seaside seafood restaurant on the north end of Phuket. Rainy season meant the restaurant was quiet, but the toilet setup was worth posting.
You head around the back and spot the universal symbol for toilets—so far, so good. Then you’re presented with three doors. Classic Thailand gamble. No signs. No instructions. Just pure instinct.
• First door? Random shower room. Nothing happening there. Possibly haunted.
• Second door? Western-style toilet. Clean, basic, no thrills—but reliable.
• Third door? Squat toilet with a bucket and basin flush system. The floor was damp but not sketchy.
If you’re a guy, you’ve also got an open-air urinal tucked around the corner. Great ventilation. Generous splash risk.
Important tip: The only toilet paper is mounted outside the doors. You miss that—you’re in for a rough ride. Rookie mistake.
Privacy was solid, cleanliness was acceptable, and the mystery-door element added a bit of spice to an otherwise standard setup.
Seafood was great. Toilets were functional. No nightmares. That’s a win.
