As a general seaport on a key economic area of the Central, Chan May offers many advantages for the development of Industry, Commerce and Service. According to the Master Plan of Vietnam Seaports System to the year of 2010, Chan May Port will be promoted to the port range for the vessel of 50.000 DWT. Chan May Port is located between the two biggest central cities of Vietnam - Da Nang and Hue City
, among many tourist resorts (Canh Duong Beach - Lang Co Beach - Hai Van Pass - Maple Mountain - Bach Ma National Park) as well as industrial zones including Tu Ha, Phu Bai, Chan May and Da Nang. Moreover, it is the central point of the World Cultural Heritages recognized by UNESCO (Hue Ancient Capital - Hue Royal Music - Hoi An Ancient Town - My Son Sanctuary). Chan May Port is the nearest and the most convenient outlet to the East Ocean and the East-West Economic Corridor connecting the Central of Vietnam with the Lower Central of Laos and with the North-East of Thailand and Myanmar. Presently, Chan May Port has the berth No.1 with 420 m in length and 12.5 m in depth, capability to accommodate the vessel of 30,000 DWT and large luxurious cruises (Queen Mary II, Elizabeth II, Super Star Leo, etc), a specialized berth of 20,000 DWT used for over-length, over-weight barrels. Also, its mobile harbor crane - Gottwald is used for various cargoes: containers, over-length, over-weight barrels andcoal, sand, clinker, titanium with high handling capacity (up to 10,000 tons/24 hrs). In 2006, Alcan Group - the world leading group in aluminium exploiting and processing - chose Chan May Port to process and to install PAMs. In the near future, the Investment Plan of Berth 02, Berth 03, Breakwater, Berthfor tourist cruises shall be settled up and speed up. Chan May Port, in long term, has suitable properties for developing deeply into the shore with the berth’s length up to 20 km and the throughput of 100 million tons/year. Under Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin), as a member of Vietnam Seaport Association (VPA) and certificated to be compliant with Seaport Security as SOLAS 74 and ISPS Code, Chan May Port has got along well with many customers, partners, vessel owners and shipping agencies domestic and overseas.
