We hang out at the farm, have some more coffee, check out the fishing nets feed baby ducklings, visit the cave, and plant some rice...
It was a very calm and chill afternoon surrounded by nature.
Then back to our heavenly lotus hotel for a swim, shower and we're out for dinner.

Afternoon visit at Buffalo cave. A wonderful farm that's been in the family for generations. We are outfitted in traditional Vietnamese farmers clothing, then we went to feed beautiful water buffalo, Mia, who is really just a beloved family pet at this point, and then we got a very fun ride from her. She was soft and coarse at the same time, very gentle and friendly. She didn't care we were up there, she was more interested in finding yummy treats along the way 😂😂😂.
Andrew had no problem riding the buffalo. I was sliding all over the back. No saddle definitely makes for a challenging ride. Lol.

Out of the lotus fields rise the majestic limestone mountains... and we heading to the top of one of them, the Dragon Mountain.
Thankfully the sun is not beating on us today, but it is HUMID. Even greater thing is that they built in little steps for kids, because at this point in the trip, my knees are barely bending. We are drenched by the time we reach a half way point. I'm running out of anti-inflammatories, so I definitely take it easy, with a lot of breaks and it's actually good thing. We get to take it in, there are lots of platforms built for resting, and they sell cold water along the way.
By the time we get to the dragon however, it is PACKED up there. Was hoping for better pictures, but it is what it is. The views are just spectacular tho. You see the national park and the boats below us.

It really is a sight to be seen in person. The pictures don't do it justice.

Trang An, a World Unesco Heritage site. We take a bout tour #3, supposedly the longest and most scenic ride. We pay extra for the "private" boat, $20.00 total. It takes us over 2.5 hrs to navigate through winding waters of this absolutely spectacular scenery. We visit multiple temples on the water, go through multitude of caves, one so low that we had to drop to the bottom of the boat. Stop at few Instagram famous selfie spots, go by the King Kong Skull Island movie set, and keep moving. The weather was just perfect, the sun fully cooperated with us, in this what can be finicky season, and we got to see the most amazing rock formations.

In the afternoon we decide to take ride to Trang An, a National Park, another big reason why we are here. It's a Unesco Hetitage Site, it's called Ha Long Bay on land. Breathtaking scenery anywhere you look. We picked this over Ha Long Bay, because it still is relatively quiet and not overrun by tourists yet... there w were still hundreds of people but got some reason barely any white people here unlike rest of Vietnam. Mostly from all over Asia. I think we spotted maybe 2 more Caucasian couples. We also got lots of curious stares and people kept asking where we are from. Doesn't look like a very popular destination for Americans, or maybe not in the slow season? We took a 2.5hr boat ride through the park, visiting caves and different pagodas. But this is where King Kong was filmed.

Next stop, one of my most anticipated stays in Vietnam, Lotus Field homestay in Ninh Binh... and we were not disappointed.. pure paradise, absolute heaven. This is what dreams are made of. Dirt roads, ducks, goats, lotus flowers for miles, stars, peace, no honking, no street lights at night.. When staying in a middle of fairytale you can literally feel the stresses of the modern world leaving you.

Another wonderful breakfast, and exploring more of Hoi An. Then we get to chill at the amazing pool, before hopping on a very "fancy" Lotus train for our 15hr ride to mystical Ninh Binh.

More of beautiful, lantern and magic filled Hoi An. Wish we were here longer, I would get a gorgeous silk dress made for less than a $100. It will just have to wait till next time.
We got on a boat in the evening to put some paper lanterns with our wishes.

After delicious breakfast of salted coffee, century egg, and some fresh fruits and salads, we head out for a coconut basket boat ride... what a great experience. Andrew tries some crab fishing, turns out you gotta be pretty skilled to catch dinner in Vietnam. We would probably lose a ton of weight if we had to do this for living.
So, not relying on our daily catch we grab some lunch in town after the boats, and explore town. I get 2 pairs of custom leather shoes made for $50.00!!!

After getting beat up for 4 days, this is a welcome comfort. Unbelievable deals on 5☆ accommodations throughout Vietnam, so we're taking the fullest advantage..
Bed is so comfy, it's hard to get up with my aching bones.
We arrive just in time for the light festival. The boats are already filling with tourists carrying paper lanterns to drop them off in the river.
We walk around town to try to figure out where to eat dinner and to spot good potential food places for the next 2 days. Hoi An is a beach town famous for silk tailors, and custom shoe makers, they can make anything in a matter of hours.
