We have all heard the phrase, “I would die for ...”
We say it about our kids, our wives, and our families.

We would jump in front of a car or take a bullet without a second thought. Its that heroic split-second decision.

But here is the harder question: Will you live for them?

Because it is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, we need to call it out. Saying you'll die for someone is easy. Doing the work to actually live for them is a lot harder.

It's waking up early.
It's eating healthier.
It's exercising.

Ultimately, it's making the time to put in the work daily so you can stay on this earth for the people who need you. 💪

Meet the team we have to thank for Norb 💪🙏

The Manufacturers' Association reached out to us and let us know they wanted to be the ones to return "Barbell Man" to the community.

They know, personally, how important this landmark is to York County residents as well as those in the strength space. Originally formed as the York Manufacturers' Association by local business leaders in 1906, they've been here since the beginning of York Barbell.

When they're not doing projects like reviving Norb, they’re helping manufacturers and high school students to uncover talents and passions that might otherwise go unrealized. Giving people stuck in low-paying jobs the chance to learn specialized skills and pivot into rewarding careers.

Manufacturer or not, their mission is helping strengthen the workforce that powers our region. Through memberships, training programs, apprenticeships, events, and professional development opportunities, they're investing in the people and companies that keep York moving forward.

Norb Schemansky was built from Detroit steel and York iron.

Born May 30, 1924, he moved weights with the fierceness that defined an era. Before he became the first weightlifter to win four Olympic medals, he was a soldier in the 184th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, fighting through the Battle of the Bulge.

He brought that same combat grit to the York Barbell Club. In 1962, at 37 years old, he became the oldest man in history to set an official world record by snatching 164 kg. He was a 3X World Champion and a pillar of the York legacy. We remember Norb not only for the accolades, but for the uncompromising discipline he brought to every training session in Muscletown.

It was almost kismet we got the news today that testing is over and Norb is officially back in full action.

Happy Birthday to the legendary Norbert Schemansky. May you rest in peace knowing you live on through York! 💪
