Insights from recent Myrtle Beach Trip (Part 2)
Though many destinations provide opportunities for families with members with disabilities or special needs to enjoy their trip, Myrtle Beach goes beyond that.
The community of Surfside Beach (one of the communities in the Myrtle Beach area) is the first Autism-Friendly Beach; certified by the Champion Autism Network (CAN). Surfside Beach ensures that families feel welcome. The area offers supportive accommodations to inclusive restaurants and activities.
Another way that the destination supports families is the Autism Travel Card. The digital card allows families to discreetly identify as having a member with autism. Participating restaurants, hotels and venues provide special services, such as quiet seating, expedited meals and accommodations for sensory overload. Hotels make sure that the stay is a sensory-friendly experience by adjusting room placements and removing potential triggers. To learn more about the app, go to: https://autismtravel.club/
