The Second City Hollywood celebrates their 3rd annual Los Angeles Diversity in Comedy Festival!

This event will take place October 11th - 14th and feature over 400 performers from across the country who are gathering in Hollywood to celebrate diverse up-and-coming comedic talent. The 2018 LADCF is sponsored by NBC, 3 Arts Entertainment, Thruline Entertainment, and Nickelodeon.

To kick off the festival on Thursday October 11th at 9pm, we will be hosting a very special showcase of our 2018 Bob Curry Fellows. Bob Curry was the first African-American performer on a resident Second City Stage, and this fellowship brings together exceptionally talented actors from multicultural backgrounds for a ten week fellowship culminating in this performance.

If you are looking for diverse talent, or looking to shine a light on diversity efforts in the comedy community, then I truly believe you need to look no further than the LADCF. Second City Hollywood is committed to seeking out and continuing to showcase diverse and multicultural voices, and I have personally been impressed at the level of talent this festival attracts.

We have industry and press comps available for all performances, and I would love to arrange tickets for you. I’ve attached our press release,
but our 2018 LADCF Website is the best resource to view the entire festival lineup as well as our sizzle reel. We will be hosting a closing night reception on Sunday October 14th from 7-10pm at Lono on Hollywood Boulevard if you would like to network with any of the performers or just join us to celebrate the end of the festival.

If you are interested in attending any of these events, please email me back at this address. We would love to have you.

LOS ANGELES DIVERSITY IN COMEDY FESTIVAL October 11-14 2018, The Second City Hollywood continues to celebrate diversity in comedy. After their inaugural success in 2016, with over 400 performers from all over the country, they’re solidified in their ongoing efforts to celebrate diversity in Los Angeles and beyond through bringing artists together, having panel discussions and workshops, as well as continuing to help change the landscape of the community through diversity scholarships. LADCF is very proud to be sponsored by NBC, 3 Arts Entertainment, Thruline Entertainment, and Nickelodeon.
Returning for their third year, The Black Version will be headlining our Friday night on our Nickelodeon Stage. See the entire scheduled lineup of shows, panels, and workshops at ladiversityfestival.com.
The goal of this festival is to offer a platform for celebrating the unique points of view that come from diverse talent in Los Angeles and beyond. This festival will offer performers of diverse backgrounds an opportunity to explore issues of diversity across race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity through performances, panels, and workshops. Who qualifies as “diverse”? We feel that diversity extends to any group of underrepresented cultural voices- this could be based on gender, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, etc.
BOB CURRY FELLOWSHIP The Second City Hollywood has announced the 2018 Bob Curry Fellows. The Bob Curry Fellowship is a one-of-a-kind professional development master program, named for the first African-American performer on a resident stage. The highly competitive fellowship is tuition-free and awarded to exceptional talent selected by auditions and adjudicated by Second City directors and producers. These actors and improvisers from diverse multicultural backgrounds will train and study at The Second City Hollywood.
The fellows are (in alphabetical order) Shukri R. Abdi, Jose Acain, B Anderson, Jorge Emanuel Berrios, Mario Barra, Idil Bray, Braxton Brooks, Rochele Gutierrez, Kalilah Harris, Chase Ingrande, Donzell Lewis, Rashaun Perry, Joy Regullano, Claudio Saavedra, JP Siruno, and Jacklyn Uweh. During this ten-week program, fellows meet twice weekly with a variety of Second City instructors and alumni to cover topics like Finding Your Voice, Acting, Improv, Writing, Satire, Musical Improv, Scripted Material, Material Generation, The Second City Archive, History, and Lore.
The program will culminate with a performance during the Los Angeles Diversity in Comedy Festival on Thursday, October 11 at 9pm. Tickets can be purchased at ladiversityfestival.com. Industry and press comps are available.

LADCF THRULINE SCHOLARSHIP Scholarship awarded is good for one year of study in improvisation, musical improvisation, or sketch comedy writing. The awarded applicant will receive one full length class per term in the year 2019, based on what applicant is eligible to take by Second City Hollywood’s training standards and prerequisites. This Scholarship is sponsored by Thruline Entertainment and is at Second City Hollywood location only.

West Hollywood Breaks Open the LIVE / WORK Idea

On Its Way to Create Thousands of More Affordable Live / Work Units All Across the City

On March 18, Lauren Meister, Lindsay Horvath and I voted in a 3-1 vote to create thousands of affordable live/work units across the city. In addition, we voted to include additional changes to the home office ordinance.

After much discussion the council moved forward with a plan to expand the ways in which live/work spaces can find a home in West Hollywood. By increasing flexibility and updating the requirements for live/work environments, thousands of new living spaces are now a possibility.

Every commercial building can now be upgraded to accommodate residential living as long as the main purpose of the commercial space remains commercial. This applies to new construction and to existing buildings, owned and rented. More than 80% of our city's businesses are small businesses; this additional flexibility will allow small businesses to thrive, reduce personal overhead, and provide many thousands of new living opportunities over time.

I have shared this idea with our friends in Los Angeles, hoping that our neighbor next door will also adopt an ordinance that expands housing opportunities, increasing the housing stock and helping reduce pressure on rents and prices region-wide.

This new policy will need review by the Planning Commission and eventually the City Council will have to take a final vote. I encourage you to contact me and the entire City council with your thoughts and questions as this works its way through our system. Write us at [email protected].

Below is the staff report and a link to the attachments.

STATEMENT ON THE SUBJECT: The City Council will receive updated analysis regarding the City's live/work facilities and home business regulations and consider the options to direct the Planning and Development Services Department to revise the Zoning Ordinance for both commercial and residential zones.

BREAKING NEWS! Lisa Vanderpump Purchases City of West Hollywood

Sunday April 1, 2018 GayWeHo Newswire

After frustrating months dealing with the City of West Hollywood
to finalize construction on her new bar "Tom Tom",
Lisa Vanderpump has decided to take matters into her own hands.

The millionairess, one of Bravo Television's "The Real Housewives of
Beverly Hills", star of the hit Bravo television series
"Vanderpump Rules", and owner of West Hollywood restaurants Pump and SUR,
has indicated she plans to resolve her frustrating
dealings with the city the way she deals with her h***y employees at
Sur Lounge.

"West Hollywood is preoccupied with partying, making the finalisation of my
project a nightmare", said Lisa. Doesn't anybody work in this town?"

Last night, while the city was distracted at their usual Saturday night
party spree, Lisa managed to wrestle control from city council
by negotiating a secret agreement for the outright purchase of the City.
With the help of her husband Ken Todd, their legal team working from
London where it was already the next day, and a final ruling from her own
appointed secret court of GayWeHo Queens, Ms. Vanderpump is now officially
the owner and mayor of West Hollywood.

The city plans to take action when it recovers from its hangover, but in the
meantime, Lisa has quickly taken advantage of her new power.

"Given all the actors that live in this city, it's about time we share our drama
with the world; all apartments in the city will now be open to my camera crews"
and she added "If you don't like it...move!" Bravo TV has already announced "From Pumpless to Overpumped ... The Real Pumped-Up Residents of West Hollywood", coming this fall.

And, no surprise, “Tom Tom” has already been fully permitted, inspected, and approved. "It's certainly a relief" sighed Lisa. "Finally."

.: Mission Statement

Not one more. We cannot allow one more child to be shot at school. We cannot allow one more teacher to make a choice to jump in front of a firing assault rifle to save the lives of students. We cannot allow one more family to wait for a call or text that never comes. Our schools are unsafe. Our children and teachers are dying. We must make it our top priority to save these lives.

March For Our Lives is created by, inspired by, and led by students across the country who will no longer risk their lives waiting for someone else to take action to stop the epidemic of mass school shootings that has become all too familiar. In the tragic wake of the seventeen lives brutally cut short in Florida, politicians are telling us that now is not the time to talk about guns. March For Our Lives believes the time is now.

On March 24, the kids and families of March For Our Lives will take to the streets of Washington, DC to demand that their lives and safety become a priority. The collective voices of the March For Our Lives movement will be heard.

School safety is not a political issue. There cannot be two sides to doing everything in our power to ensure the lives and futures of children who are at risk of dying when they should be learning, playing, and growing. The mission and focus of March For Our Lives is to demand that a comprehensive and effective bill be immediately brought before Congress to address these gun issues. No special interest group, no political agenda is more critical than timely passage of legislation to effectively address the gun violence issues that are rampant in our country.

Every kid in this country now goes to school wondering if this day might be their last. We live in fear.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Change is coming. And it starts now, inspired by and led by the kids who are our hope for the future. Their young voices will be heard.

Stand with us on March 24. Refuse to allow one more needless death.

MARCH FOR OUR LIVES!

Congratulations, everyone!
The 2018 ACA (Affordable Care) enrollment period has been shortened to November 1-December 15, 2017.
[You're probably not seeing a lot of advertising about the enrollment window online or on TV due to Trump Admin. cutting advertising money from the program budget. Reducing enrollment is a method to cause the program to be less cost effective and to also show a lack of popularity.]
Fortunately, your friends (like me) are posting this and using the word ' congratulations ' so it gets posted more frequently in Newsfeed by FB algorithms.
Please copy and paste on your own timeline, if you want to help spread the word. (It's less effective when you share - it won't be seen as easily by those it may help.)
