Qantas, the airline of Australia, was an operator of what many consider to be one of the most graceful aircraft of all time, The Lockheed Constellation (specifically the later L-1049E Super Constellation as seen here). “VH-EAD,” when this photograph was taken in 1956, was the airline’s brand-new long-range flagship. This “Connie” was captured at the opening of Adelaide Airport which occurred that same year. The admiring crowds all around her are there for this special occasion.
Throwback Thursdays are a weekly journey into the past of our industry. If any of you have specific airlines/airplanes you’d like to see featured feel free to “drop us a line” and we will see if we can find them for you.
