As a friendly reminder, permit applications are required in order to renew or obtain your annual slip or mooring for the Summer Season (May 15, 2026 – November 1, 2026). All seasonal fees must also be paid in full prior to the start of the season. Due to delays in issuing invoices this year, we extended the payment and application deadline to May 20th.

Important: Failure to submit your permit application and remit payment by May 20, 2026, will result in forfeiture of your slip or mooring assignment. Any unclaimed slips or moorings will be offered to the next eligible individual on the section waitlist. Please do not overlook these requirements.

Current insurance and registration are also required prior to the boat entering the water. These documents can be uploaded via Dockwa.com; dropped off locally (our May hours beginning on the 15th are 8-5 7 days a week); or emailed.

The ultimate platform for boaters & marinas. Boaters find dockage, storage, fuel, service & more. Marinas streamline operations with marina management software.

Our very own Wendy Liddy attended Safety and Survival Training last week alongside Town Shellfish Constable Nancy Civetta. The course was delivered by Fishing Partnership Support Services and conducted by U.S. Coast Guard–certified fishing vessel safety instructors.

Here’s a photo of them getting hands-on experience using survival suits in the water—great job to both of you!

Today we received our replacement trailer from the MA Department of Environmental Protection. The trailer is fully stocked and ready to deploy in the event of an emergency. Keeping our waters safe and clear is essential for health of the environment, aquaculture, and fishing industry.

The Wellfleet Harbor Department team would like to acknowledge families that are undertaking work to repair and maintain the 74 commemorative benches that ring the marina half-mile walkway. Our recent audit finds most benches in good condition, but some need remedial work. The Harbormaster's Office is happy to put families in contact with contractors to discuss repairs and maintenance needs.

The Harbormaster coordinated with the United States Coast Guard and Barnstable County to arrange icebreaking operations in the harbor, which were completed yesterday and again this morning. The objective was to clear navigable areas to support the local fishing fleet and reduce further damage to harbor infrastructure.

Barnstable County deployed a tugboat to Barnstable Harbor, Sesuit Harbor, and ultimately Wellfleet Harbor for the icebreaking efforts. The Coast Guard experienced mechanical issues with one of its ice cutters and therefore concentrated primarily on ocean-side harbors.

Finally, as a reminder, please stay off the ice. The tragic events yesterday in Eastham are an unfortunate reminder of how unstable sea ice can be. Combined with the extremely cold water temperatures, these conditions create a very dangerous situation.

We have received reports of individuals walking on the ice near Indian Neck and by Uncle Tim’s Bridge. For your safety, please avoid going onto the ice under any circumstances.

We are glad that so many members of the community — both people and pets — enjoy the Harbor. As a friendly reminder, please clean up after your dog while walking in the area. Unfortunately, the pathways and surrounding grounds have recently been littered with dog waste.

To make this easier, we have placed Mutt Mitt bags at several locations around the Harbor, and a trash barrel is located on the northwest side of the Harbormaster’s office. Please be a responsible pet owner and follow town bylaws. Keeping the Harbor clean benefits everyone who uses and enjoys it.

The cold weather continues to ice up the Harbor. Today it was discovered that a large boat out in the deep hole was dragged by the ice to Jeremy Point. Two fishermen went to check on it in frigid temperatures. Upon notification of the events by Wellfleet Police Department, the Harbormaster was immediately at the Harbor.

A second fisherman departed Rock Harbor to help. The second boat lost power amid the icy conditions and had to be towed until the engine could finally be started.

There was constant communication by the Harbormaster with all parties involved, as well as the US Coast Guard, Wellfleet Police, and the Massachusetts Environmental Police. The individuals involved are seasoned fishermen and safely made it back to the harbor where the Harbormaster was waiting for them and helped secure the boats.

The Harbormaster Department would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication Wellfleet fishermen display in fishing our waters. They are a tightly knit community that work together through difficult times.
