The City of Warren was given a Court Order to find a location for a composting facility. After reviewing locations throughout Macomb County, a site in Washington Township just south of 31 Mile and West of Mound was identified by them as a prime location. It is a capped landfill area sitting amongst old sand and gravel mines which Mound Road is known for. There is, of course, a difference between c

apped landfills and composting facilities. Composting can smell for miles around if not handled properly. A facility would also mean additional truck traffic on top of the gravel hauler traffic. For this reason, local governments have ordinances governing where and how these facilities are located to protect surrounding residents. Composting sites are necessary but the need to locate them must be weighed against the implications to the residents in the area chosen.
