ined it would turn into a social movement that would bring to the next generation, adults and elders. Yes, it's me it Sharon Parker, President for Remembering Our Ancestors Synergistic Association (ROASA), Inc., and I'm extremely excited to share the we will host our 5th Annual Unconditional Love Retreat June of 2017. Back in 2013, at the historic L’Enfant Plaza Hotel in Washington, DC (SW), we held our first ROASA, Inc., retreat. Our theme was “Reflecting on Life Experiences to Develop a Successful Future” (see attached flyer with our themes from 2014-2016). We were blessed with a number of trailblazers who shared their story of triumph after experiencing barriers and setbacks in their family and career. We rejoiced with trailblazers like Dr. Barbara Reynolds, Dr. E. Faye Williams, Pastor Mary Wilson, Dr. E. Beth, Sears, PH.D., Juanita Busy Bee Britton, and Renee Robinson and a host of others on how they overcame those setbacks to become true icons in our community . Here is a testimony from Dr. E. Beth Sears, P.H.D: "I was honored and awed by the opportunity to interact with such accomplished women at the first annual ROASA, Inc., retreat. In addition to the company of such accomplished people, I was especially moved by their stories of their journeys. Success takes hard work, and these individuals had many barriers which would have thwarted the journey of many, but chose to persevere, and use their stories as inspiration to others. From journalists, consultants, ministers and poets, their gifts were undeniable. There were many firsts in the group and I take pride in being the first Caucasian speaker at the event. I teach on first impressions as it is an element of my expertise communication and those impressions are often formed before anyone has a chance to speak. Our first impressions are formed by our life experiences and may have nothing to do with the individual in front of us. What a loss if we do not look beyond to understand the depth of the individual regardless of the package in which they come. By listening to one another and acknowledging a person’s brilliance and gifts, we can move a long way toward breaking down barriers that keep us apart.
